Given the labor to get at a heater core, do you guys test new ones before installing? Just sitting here and thinking about this job... I figure I might plumb up the new core to an air compressor, give it 10 or 15 psi or more and submerge it in a bucket of water, watch for bubbles. Good practice...

The instruments are only lit by indirect reflected. They did not have backlight gauges through translucent gauge faces like later cars nor the LED lighting of modern day cars. So they just aren't going to be that bright. But they should be legibly bright or bright 'enough'. Assuming you do have...

I like the response and have little to add. But as for resale value: Unless we are talking about a rare and desirably optioned early C3 (think big block or LT1) that will be a trailer queen to be sold at auction, I really doubt a change, even a color change makes 'that' much difference in value...
