If you follow the wiring down from the bulbs, there's a plug-in connector on each side for the lights. Just un-plug them. That's what I do at car shows where the hood might be up all day.

Are you talking open headers? By not noticing any gain do you mean through the seat of the pants or are you talking track times or dyno numbers? It depends upon your engine combo, but I find it hard to believe there was no advantage to open headers compared to running a full exhaust.

It would be a very boring world if we all thought alike. I've seen some very, very nice Polo Corvette. I wouldn't turn one down because of the color. Whether you like a certain color or not, they're all Corvettes underneath.
First, everything should be media blasted to get a good clean surface.
Then, the guy that did my powder coating taped off the gasket flange surfaces and used plugs for bolt and accessory holes.
Everything was powder coated, then clear coated.
