As I continue to get deeper and deeper into our 62, I'm starting to realize how much I've forgotten about carburators. I've been a Fuel Injection guy for the last 20 years and haven't touched a carb since I stopped driving my 66 Corvair Monza with 2 1bbls.
My 62 has a Holley 4053 4bbl on it...
My car is a 4 speed - it's a 67 M21, but it's a 4 speed.
The heads are from December 68 and February 69. My neighbor got pretty excited when I told him the date code on the 186 head as it's 5 days before his car was built. He's slowly laying claim to my drivetrain (transmission, carb, head)...
Thanks John. Would the mis-matched heads lead to too much of an imbalance in your opinion? I did find a reference that listed both as 64cc chambers, but who knows what's actually in there?
Head numbers - right 3947041 L68, left 3927186 B19
The left head is a 'dual camel hump' head and should have 2.02/1.6 valves.
The right head is a 'right angle' head and could either have 2.02/1.6 or 1.94/1.5 valves. What are the odds that they're mis-matched?
The 62 that we bought at Carlisle has an engine that's turning into a bit of a mystery. I know it's a NOM and everyone told us it was from a 67. We talked to the man who built the engine and he confirmed it was a 67 with solid lifters, high lift cam and domed pistons. He couldn't remember...
The publications are supposed to arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. I also ordered Volumes I and II of Nolan Adams' books today (gotta be ready for when the right Sting Ray waltzes into my life!).
Thanks guys. I was operating by feel since I hadn't taken the top off and I didn't reach back far enough. Looks like it'll be an easy fix!
Unrelated - is there some reason that color production numbers aren't available for 62? It seems that most years you can find out how many cars in each...
I guess I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow, then. I haven't had the deck lid up yet as we haven't taken the top off of the car. The nut sert is what I'm talking about and it looks like it's just pressed into the deck lid and is splined for a friction fit. If it's just missing a nut on...
Hi guys from a new owner.
My wife and I brought a 62 home from Carlisle this year and I've started taking on it's ails.
One problem is that it's a hard top only car and the nuts that press into the deck lid have stripped out of their holes and don't hold. The top rattles like crazy when...
