What hanger and secondary and rods should I use?

There are several performance upgrades that can be made to this carb, including secondary rods. But just a rod change by itself will probably not make a noticeable difference. You might try a set of Edelbrock 1951 (CE) rods and see what happens. God bless, Sensei

Those with Modified Engines and Original Carb

Putting epoxy on leaking plugs is like smearing tar on a leaking roof. It might work for a while, but it is bound to leak again. When I do this repair, I combine it with opening the fuel passages for higher fuel flow potential. I remove the old pressed in plugs, precision drill (open) the fuel...

Those with Modified Engines and Original Carb

It should, but I make no guarantees. Most of the mods only effect WOT performance, unless you are running a highly modified engine that might need idle circuit modification. In that case, I doubt you are concerned about smog inspection anyway.

    Question: 81 door panels

As I remember, there are three screws in the door handle, the lock knob, the screw in the door opening lever trim, the two screws in the mirror adjuster trim, one or two screws in the carpeted area and a screw near the top rear edge. After that, just lift it up an inch or so and pull out, no...

    Speedo cable

I'd just call the parts store to see if they stock one and/or take the old on in to match up. I pulled mine out to lube it a few years ago with little trouble. The book said to remove the dash or some such nonsense. If I remember correctly, I just reached up and felt around until I found the...

    Help! ECM Problems

The first thing I recommend is to get some Caig Labs "Deoxit" contact cleaner and put it on every connection in the entire CCC system (ECM, Chip, Distributor, Carb, sensors, etc.) You might find this by itself fixes everything, but even if it does not, it is a half hour well spent. Now, what if...

    Code 23

You can test your MC solenoid by touching a 9v battery to the terminals for an instant (just a flick) and see if the bobber moves (just set a thin allen wrench down on it through a vent hole). Are you sure you have the correct throttle plate, and are you sure it is all working correctly. A...

    Question: Replacing windshield

Early C3s have windshields that are more difficult to replace, but the '81 windshield seems to go in like more modern cars. I had mine replaced a year or so ago with no problems, but be sure to take care of any rust you might find, don't just put it in over rust. God bless, Sensei

    Question: Gas Mileage?!?

No, 10 mpg is not normal. Mine got about 14 city/ 15 highway when I got it. Everything was stock and there was a leak where the header primary tubes came together. When I replaced the stock exhaust with a free flowing 2 1/2" dual system, my mileage went up to around 17 city/ 18-19 highway. Now...

    WTB: Rochester Q-jet #17081228 (auto, non-CA)

If you are just looking for a replacement carb for performance, and plan to keep your original carb stock, do you really need the replacement to be numbers matching? God bless, Sensei

Looks Great! It looks like you still have the AIR system in place. Is it functional? God bless, Sensei

Question: What can I get rid of?

The Famous "Cobrajet" (yes, they were put of Fords), was a specially modified Rochester Quadrajet (Yes, a GM product). You can find a detailed description of the mod in Doug Roe's "Rochester Carburetors". Basically, 8 .030" holes are put in the secondary pickup tubes, which causes more fuel to...

Question: What can I get rid of?

I don't know what exhaust you put on, but my exhaust system made a HUGE, feel it in the seat of your pants difference. Here is a fairly detailed list of mods I've made to my car: Carburetor: Perforated Secondary Pickup Tubes (like Cobrajet) Open Idle...

Question: What can I get rid of?

Headers and duals, heads, pistons, cam, advanced timing, performance chip, and many high performance mods to the carb. God bless, Sensei

    Question: Check engine light

Under your ash tray is the ALDL connector. The terminals you need to short with a metal paper clip are the two on one end separated by a divider. The check engine light will first flash once, then twice (code 12) then it will begin flashing the trouble code numbers.

    Dwell and choke question

I hate to flame someone here, but most of you know I have been on a mission to wipe out this sort of mis-information for years, so here goes (sorry black_81-vette, not disrespect intended). The CCC computer system is outstanding. How many computers do you know of that can be kept outside for 28...
