Thanks for all the advice. I haven't tried to hit the puller bolt like that. I'm using a puller like this one... ...and used a propane torch to heat the pitman arm at the same time, but no result. Problem is the puller. With all the linkage, it becomes to flexible and starts to bend sideways...

    bumper covers

Fiberglass (or flexi-glass or whatever it is called, that is supposed to be a little more flexible). I've only changed the back one though. As born2saw said, it takes some work to get it good. Don't expect the fit to be 100% when you get it. Also, I spent a lot of time to remove the old one...

A steering box rebuild article, just what I was looking for, thanks! :w (Now if only they could explain how to remove a pitman arm that have become one with the steering box axle... :cry)

    bumper covers

Go for new ones. Mine were cracked when i bought my car. I tried to repair them, but the 30+ years old urethane is so brittle that it just fell apart.

    Toe In??

Brian, Does the steering feel odd when you drive the car? If the front end is so out of alignment that it looks strange with the eye, then I think you would notice this when you drive the car.

    Toe In??

Brian, That is an effect of Camber and Caster. Camber (positive camber) is when the top of the wheel is closer to the car than the bottom, when driving straight forward. Caster is the angle of the steering axis, when looking from the side. Think of a chopper motorcycle. When you are driving...

    Steering box

I'm removing my steering box from the car to rebuild it. I have removed the bolts, but how do I separate it at the flex coupling? I have opened both clamps, but It doesn't seem to be enough room to separate the steering box from the steering column, do I need to loosen and pull back the steering...

    Toe In??

The toe-in shouldn't be checked with the wheels fully turned, the wheels should be pointing straight forward. Measure the difference between the distance between the front of the left-and right wheel, and the rear of the left- and right wheel, that is toe. You adjust the toe by loosening the...

    tach gear install

Not really, but if your tach gear is shot, there is a good chance that the gear on the distributor axle is also damaged, so I would advice you to pull the distributor and check that out. (I dont remember if you need to disassemble the distributor to check the axle gear, maybe someone else knows...

    Looking at 74 Vette

I painted mine off the car, worked fine.

    Caliper Rebuild

You can see this if you take one piston out and look at the seal. The o-ring type is just that - an o-ring, with a circular-cross section. The lip seal is more triangular in the cross-section, with a sharp edge that seals against the cylinder wall.

    Caliper Rebuild

When you order new parts, be aware that there are two kinds of seals for the pistons, o-ring or lip seal. Check which you have first.

    CROOKED STEERING WHEEL

How much "off" is the steering wheel from the center position? You can adjust it by turning the tie rod sleeves on both sides of the car (not much, only half a turn or so). Be sure to check which way the threads are, so that you are shortening on one side and making it longer on the other...

    Repair or Replace

I should add that if the front bumper is fiberglass (i.e it has been replaced before) it can be repaired, but if it is the original urethane (rubber) you'll propably need to replace it as it will be brittle and fall apart as you try to repair it. At least mine was like that.

    Fender Bender

On the other hand, if something happens fiberglass is easier to repair. How much damage can a urethane bumper sustain anyway? I have a "true flex" bumper and I'm happy with it, but I'll admit that the fit was far from perfect when I got it. And what's with the "flex" anyway? It seems to be plain...

    Repair or Replace

I'd say repair it (except for the front bumper). The crack should be no problem. The hole is a bit worse, but replacing the entire front clip...? That seems to be way too much work and $$$ for me. Either a new fender (maybe you can cut out just the front part at a salvage yard?) or you'll have...

    Raise the rear

Mike, I have allready ordered a set of those so that will soon be taken care of, but I'm sure I can come up with something else. :) I'll have to take you to some other restaurant though, because the one you visited ran out of business and had to close! /Johan

    Raise the rear

Thanks, this was the info I was looking for. I just measured on my car. I have 235/70-15 tires wich are a tad bigger than GR70, but still my height is an inch too low in the back (and an inch too high in the front). The bolts are something like 7,5" long. Ouch, not too shiny under there...
