I like the "diesel truck oil" for our engines. Shell Rotella T 15W-40 or Mobil Delvac 1300 15W-40. Either have wear additive packages quite similar to what was normal when our C3's were new; wear packs that have nearly disappeared from today's typical passenger car oil formulations. Either are...
Disconnect cable at dist ... chuck cable (core) into a reversible drill motor ... spin it in reverse (CCW) & check for tach movement ... if drill turns 500rpm, the tach should read 1K. While cable disconnected, run engine & look at dist ... the tach drive turns clockwise.
BTW ... you have to...
Ralph:
Where you drove the pin out of shaft ... is there a burr around the holes in shaft?
As Bob78 said ... maybe a stripped tach gear on shaft is burred?
Earlier this week I got antique plate for the 71 ... no choice of characters ... but tag's gold metallic background nearly matches WBY body. One goofy thing: tag has raised "south carolina" across top ... just a bit too wide ... interferes with the upper plate mount holes & surround's ears.
Ralph:
Go get yourself a qt of "StaBil" fuel stabilizer from the local discount store. Double-dose remaining fuel in tank ... and try & crank it & get treated fuel into bowl. Your carb will appreciate it & will act appropriately come springtime. Treat any mowers/trimmers etc while you're at it.
For 2101, OE intake or other intake that have exhaust Xover ports.
If you can go chokeless or modify yours ... do this:
Cut thin (steel not alum) shims to block exhaust Xover ports on each head ... silicone those shims to each head ... then install gaskets ... then intake. Our regional Ctrack...
Real race pulleys for endurance racing are usually hard anodized aluminum ... & not designed to look pretty. CV Products is major supplier of complete pulley systems ... complete for race cars ... you can adapt to street. Also ... Coleman, KRC, Moroso & Sweet about same. None of it is cheap.
generic drawing
If you're referring to the drawing near top of page I linked (above) ... suggest that drawing is generic ... there to lay out dimensions of several trans on that page.
Art ... seems Corvette 700 had a shorter tailshaft housing ... about 7/8" shorter than the others. Looks like all 700 have same mount position but vette 700 is about 7/8" shorter overall due to 7/8" shorter vette ts housing. Check the dimensions in link below ... sorry for ya pal...
Frankly, I dunno if I'd do it ... I'm kinda anal 'bout that kinda stuff.
PO did same w/ mine ... it does not appear to have hurt deck lid or surrounding body. But ... some stresses may take long time to present.
There was/is a form member (? 69myway ? sp? real name Chris McDonald) who prepped...
I agree 100% ... I build my own.
I have heard only good things about T&L ... including anecdotes from a pro racer friend whose T&L experience preceded the advent of ebay/crates via internet. I've never had any relationship w/ T&L.
Also, I cannot help but pointing out that when someone...
I'm considering antique plates here in South Carolina. Other than a minimal ($15) one-time fee, they offer a large yearly savings because antiques are exempt from yearly licensing, property tax & road use fees. Of course, use is restricted but I think that will not be an issue with me. My...
Right ... the number of bolts the 3 center main bearing caps have. If you're making less than about 400 hp and not spending much time at track ... 2 bolt 350 is more than enough. FYI ... all OE production GM 350 blocks have 5 main bearing locations. OE production GM 350 4 bolt blocks have 4bolt...
Brand NEW ... not rebuilt ... from GM ... Goodwrench "universal" 350 ... about $1500 at your local GM dealer ... best warranty out there: 3yr/100K mile GM warranty ... GM part number is 10067353. Makes about 250-260 HP. The motor is a virtual equivalent to & specs out about same as early 70's...
Ideally ... you're quite right. But ... I've done several without vacuuming. Just Sunday I helped a bud do his older R12 Ranger PU in very hi humidity ... leaky compressor had been off truck for about a year ... system wide open all that time ... put a junkyard compressor & a new drier ... used...
You're gonna need a new distributor ... because your 81's ignition advance is adjusted via ECM ('puter) ... you'll need one with both vacuum & mechanical advance. I have FS two brand new USA-made HEI w/both V&M advances ... EMAIL me thru this forum if serious ... prefer NO pm.
