    81 radiators

Amigos, In the seemingly endless quest to get this 81 back to reliable temp control in the desert. It's been perfect the last week after all of last weekends work. The new thermostat was probably the solution. Today the project was to install the new shroud to replace the shattered...

    Engine Tick...

Valve tick That makes perfect sense to me as I had a similar issue on a 454 motor home. I ignored it because "It was always like that". When I did a Banks kit it was worse so I looked carefully and found a small burr where someone had forced something at the factory. Smoothed it and all...

    Engine Tick...

Engine tick On an 81? I've got it as well, sounds like a lifter but it was still exactly the same after a complete engine rebuild. New block, cam, lifters. pistons etc... Really annoyed me. I'm wondering if it's something with the right side exhaust?

    81 parking brake?

Parking brake Can't dispute the logic. I just wondered how such an elegant looking mechanism would cause problems. Rust is certainly an explanation. Not a problem in Las Vegas but I can see it happening in other climes...

    Shark mouth panel?

Have the valence, not the flanges Just a followup for amusement, I got the rubber spoilers and the lower GRP valence but when I offered them up I found all of the side supports of the bumper were ripped away in the past. I knew there was a lot of stuff missing but had no idea what supported...

    81 parking brake?

Hi folks, When I bought my 81 many years ago I noticed early on that there were no shoes in the parking brake assembly and the cables were Ty-rapped to the trailing arm.. I thought it odd so asked a knowledgable Corvette friend about it. His reply was "they cause a lot of trouble, leave it...

    Shark mouth panel?

Rad panel and Hiway miles Had to take a trip out to the new job this AM and the temp came up to mid scale and a bit above on the trip. This in the early morning hours so it would definately be up there in the 110F afternoons. I'll get the valence on order tomorrow. It looks like the side...

    Shark mouth panel?

Studing the diagram it appears I'm missing the spoiler as well as the valence:eyerole I'm gonna have to do some studying methinks... It appears I'm missing a flange on the outer edge of BU57/78, presumably where the spoiler would attach. Any way to fix this material short of replacement...

    Shark mouth panel?

Thanx Thanx Yoda, that is exactly the panel I was thinking of. My 81 has the biggest rad I've ever seen and does really fine here in the Vegas Mojave Desert heat. I love the thing. To date it's all been stop and go city driving where it's coped beautifully. With the new conditions we'll be...

    Shark mouth panel?

Soon to be using the 81 for a lot of hiway driving to/from a new job. With that in mind, what's the deal with the bottom panel below the rad opening? The lower jaw of a shark mouth, if you will. Does it help? Hinder? How fragile and exposed is it when installed. My 81 has never had it so I have...

    Interior fan C3/C4 upgrade

Thanx all!:) I worked thru the list of industry partners on the left this morning and found what I needed at Ecklers. Great feature that! I appreciate all the responses to an issue that never should have been a problem. In fairness, the aggaravating website has sent me a nice Email...

    Interior fan C3/C4 upgrade

Help!! I am so P'd off and frustrated at the moment searching for a supplier to SELL me a C4 fan and motor to upgrade my C3 interior fan. The online catalogs are a freakin' JOKE. With several of the suppliers I can't find a magic combination of words to even find the parts. Finally I found...

    caster/camber gauge

Home alignment In a pinch you can use a stack of glossy magazines under the tires in place of the turntables. Works real nice and provides a use for all the crap catalogs showing up in the mail.Steve

    I need a racing harness.

I don't know the history of your project so I'll comment generically. Judging from the seats I assume you're building a fast road/autocrosser. If building a road racer, by all means choose a cam-lock because you can't be fighting stinkin' levers on the pregrid! The same might be true for...

    81 Air diverter valve

Has anybody got the black plastic air diverter valve that switches the air pump from the air filter to the Cat? My 81 has to pass emissions and the TURD mechanic refuses to substitute a different valve into that function. I know of lot of these emissions systems have been junked so maybe...

    81 T-Top for sale

OK CVT4ME, Here's all the numbers ... Blue, Safety Flo Lite LOF, AS-3, JJ, Laminated, DoOT 15, M1131. I assume the last number is germane as they are different than the ones I have on my car. Rubber is surprisingly good all around, the outer plastic bead is doing the usual slipping around with...

    81 T-Top for sale

I have a mirrored glass passenger side T-top for an 81 for sale. Fits other years as well. Green glass on the inside. I had to buy a mismatched set to replace my missing drivers side glass so I don't need this one. $260 with free shipping. I also have a pair of fleece lined bags supposedly for...

    Edelbrock carb for 81?

Greetings friends, My 81 is getting ten to the gallon on a freshly rebuilt engine. I know the stock M4VE carb is messed up and I have to run with the solenoid unplugged for it to run decently. It also fails SMOG checks regularly. So a couple of questions if you will... 1. Is the distributors...

    Check engine light doesn't work

Check Engine Light Hey, That's the one most reliable piece on my car! It's always on, if only I could send it to ya:D Steve in Las Vegas

    81 power steering valve

Adjusting the steering box Very interesting comments. I never considered the steering box being an issue. It struck me that the PS was simply way too light. Now that you say it, perhaps the ram is sized to combat a bit of friction from the box. It does bump steer and follow ruts even though...
