Carbs
Guess I should update evceryone on this topic: It turns out the carbs were'nt the problem at all - at least not the major part of it. Ended up replacing my Crane Fireball ignition system with a new Pertronix system - thing runs like a clock now. Although it does look like I have a leak...
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I seem to be only getting one page of posts. So...
I have the all to common rivet pops on the front of my '71. It might be my imagination, but one or tow of them seem to be getting worse lately. Just wondering how much the (correct) fix is going to...
Carbs
Just talked to Robbie Kunz - he is a nice guy, and is going to mail me a receipt. So I guess I should take back some of the venom I spewed when I was so frustrated with waiting on these carbs to come back. I was just so tired of waiting for these things that I thought I might never see...
Finally !
I finally got my carbs back from Robbie Kunz late last week - I was out of town until Thurs night, so just got to take a look at them. I have to admit they really look good - I hope they run as well as they look. A couple of things still concern me though: (1) He called me a week or...
Carburetors - Another Update - Again
Its been a month since my last communication -- still no carbs.
BUT, my check has been cashed !!
Since it was originally only going to be "about 4 weeks" to get this done I never bothered to put any stabilizer in the gas tank. (I drive my cars as much as...
Mike,
Yeah, it DEFINITELY is not like 'the old days" ! The "old guys" are all gone or retired and I understand that carbs are a thing of the past and there are fewer and fewer people around to rebuild them -- I just want someone to be upfront with me about cost and time so that I can make an...
Carburetors - Another Update
And the saga continues: After being told that my carburetors were done and would be returned as soon as my check cleared I waited almost 2 weeks with no sign of my carbs. I called to inquire about where they were and after fumbling and stumbling over his words I was...
Another update: Got a call from Robby Kunz yesterday. My carbs are done at the price he quoted ($350 each) plus shipping ($50), in the allotted time he said they would be. Sent him a check ( I'm old school and don't do PayPal and he doesn't accept CC's) and he'll ship them back as soon as he...
I'll be interested to see how this thread goes: I've wanted to put the Jim Meyer front end kit under my '59 for years, but have never had the $$$ to pull it off. I hope to get around to it this year, so I'll be checking in to see how it goes. The side motor mounts seem like a good idea as well -...
Just an update on my carbs: I spoke to Robby Kunz (Bob's son) at length about my carburetors and feel pretty good about it. Seems that his Dad is kind of winding down, but Robby is continuing the business and seems to know what he's talking about. Sent my two (2) WCFB's to him on 12/28/17. I was...
OK...... so the guy at Carburetors USA finally got back me: He was pissed that I threatened to bring a lawyer with me and I told him I was pissed at being lied to every time I asked for a finish date on the rebuilds. When I told him that I heard of someone whose carb has been there since May he...
Wow !! That really sucks ! I started to head up there to get mine back today (I live about an hour and a half away), but the traffic is so bad today that I turned around. Then left him a nasty VM telling him I'm showing up next week with the police and a lawyer. Then my wife pointed out that he...
Has anyone had any dealings with Carburetors USA in New Jersey ? I dropped off my 59's 2 x 4's there on Oct 2 and was told it would be "about a month" for them to be done. After 6 weeks I starting calling him and it took me 2 weeks for him to finally return my calls. He told me he was running...
Thanks Wayback; I noticed both of the other switches showed signs of overheating. So, can I assume this is a common occurrence wit these things ? Any kind of a fix ? Sure don't want the car burning down because of a lousy fan switch !
Bernie O
The fan motor switch in the console on my '71 seems to be way too hot to the touch when operating; is that normal ? I'm guessing not, but has anyone else run into this and what is the problem / fix.
BTW, I've replaced this switch at least twice in the past 4 - 6 years because they failed. The...
'71 gas smell
Thanks for all your replies guys; much appreciated. I'm just going to take it back to the shop that did the work -- I just talked to them and seem more than willing to help me out.
And I learned something about the EEC system !
Thanks,
Bernie O
I recently had my '71 rear-ended, so of course it ended up in the body shop. It wasn't a lot of damage (although it cost almost as much as I paid for the car 5 years ago) and they did a nice job, including replacing he gas tank. I've only driven it a few times since the repair, but once it's...
C5vetter, Thanks for the explanation - I've never encountered any of those problems before, but I'm going to put the straps on anyway.
Thanks again,
Bernie O
My '59 has never had the rebound straps on it. I'm thinking of putting them on, just because I need something to do. Is it hurting the car not to have them ? I've never noticed any issues without having them and didn't even know such things existed until after I owned the car for a number of...
Tom,
Yeah, didn't mean to put you on the spot -- after I posted I thought " I should just call Hurst and see what they have to say ".
Still haven't had a response from the other guys on my quote request so I'm about to write them off.
Thanks for your help,
Bernie O
