    C 1 Five Speed

Tom, That Hurst kit looks interesting, but would I have to use the Hydraulic Clutch Fork kit ? Also, what about the driveshaft ? I understand I cannot use my stock C-1 d/s, and probably wouldn't want to anyway. Thanks for your help ! Bernie O

    C 1 Five Speed

Any recommendations on who / where to purchase a 5 speed for my '59 ? I assume most of them are Tremecs, but I'm not sure. I sent a quote request to ProFormance Powertrain a few days ago with no response yet (but it is Easter weekend). Any insight, recommendations, suggestions, etc... would be...

    1962 Steering Wheel Removal?

First pry off the horn button, then remove the 3 screws holding the receiver cup assembly to the steering wheel with a small screwdriver (I think, could be a small socket you need). Then remove the large steering wheel nut -- probably has a washer, too. Then you'll need a steering wheel puller...

    C1 ifs

Does anyone have an opinion on the Jim Meyer IFS vs. the Martz Chassis IFS ? Both look about the same, but Marts is about $400 less. Bernie O

    5 Speed in C-1

Hagan / Sebring, Thanks for the input. Still not sure which way I'm going to go, but I will definitely give the Richmond a look. I don't race the car and only occasionally "put my foot in it", so I don't need anything with massive torque / horsepower ratings. I just want a good, dependable OD...

    5 Speed in C-1

Hello All, I'm planning on dropping a 5 speed (Tremec ?) in my '59. Any suggestions ? Is the Tremec the "only game in town"? How easy is it to install ? Any mods to the body / trans tunnel ? Any information, pointers, suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bernie O

    Aluminum Radiator

59Vette, Well, you sure have a lot more heat to deal with in the summer than I do -- I used to do a lot of work in the Mansfield area and it could get pretty toasty there in the summer. I'm really hoping the new radiator will help out and I really don't wnat to put a fan on it if I don't have...

    Aluminum Radiator

Well, the new radiator is in and looks good. Biggest PITA was getting the fan shroud back in correctly without tearing up the new radiator. It looks good and appears to work well, although I realy won't know unitl the summer heat hits (sooner the better in my book). Bernie O

    Aluminum Radiator

Thanks Hib, I just thought an outfit like DeWitts would know what the coolant capacity of their radiators was. I've got an older crate 350 motor and the car has overheated in the summer in slow traffic for some time now. This year I noticed coolant leaking from somewhere. I think it's the...

Help! 72 C3 need motor advise!

My suggestion: "Tag and Bag" the original motor and stuff a crate motor in it. Bernie O.

    Aluminum Radiator

Hi All, Have a couple of quick questions on DeWitts Alum rad's: I'm installing one in my '59 and I'm wondering if anyone knows the capacity of one of these radiators. I called DeWitts and 2 different people told me that they didn know (???). I was told by the second guy "It should be a gallon...

    Left brake lie not working

Left Brake light Hank, I can almost guarantee you it is the turn signal apparatus. Had this problem for years with my '59. It's mostly caused by the turn signal lever not returning to center and this affects current to the lights. Drove me crazy for years -- I rebuilt my own turn signal cup a...

    C-1 Water Pump

Hib, I'm still not sure if I had the fan on right or not. I like to think I did, but I can't say for 100% sure. I'll be sure to get it on right when it goes back on. The water pump is not off yet, but it has definitely been leaking some around the bolts, but hard to say how much. I'm still...

    C-1 Water Pump

Mikey, It's possible that I'm overfilling sometimes -- it's difficult to know just how high to fill this radiator. However, I don't think I'm always overfilling it. Got the radiator out tonight -- hoses seem fine. Water pump comes off tomorrow. And maybe I'll have the radiator checked out at...

    C-1 Water Pump

Hib, Thanks again for the reply. When I drained the coolant it did NOT notice any exhaust smell and the coolant looked almost new. No crud in it, but as mentioned earlier, it gets replaced on a regular basis. I did not drain the block, but wouldn't expect to see anyting different there either...

    C-1 Water Pump

Hib, Thanks for the reply. I am REALLY hoping I don't have a head gasket problem, although it has overheated a couple of times over the years. I thought if I had a head gasket issue I would see water in oil; is this correct. Or I would smell coolant out of the exhaust -- I have neither of...

    C-1 Water Pump

I am (finally) getting around to inpecting and/or changing the water pump on my '59. The problem has been that the car continues to "burp" coolant out of either the overflow tube or, somtimes, it actually lifts the radiator cap and it gushes out of there. This happens just about everytime I run...

It's Time for a New Engine....

Any chance you're the guy who we yanked the body off the crappy frame for in Unionville, PA and put another frame under the bodyfor; that avatar picture looks awful familiar. Anyway, easiest way is to go the crate motor route -- great selection from GMPP and you get a (limited) warranty. The...

Repair of stripped out fiberglass for screws 1961 Vette

I'm certainly no expert, but I have seen it done two different ways. 1) Similar to what you're thinking about doing, but I have seen guys take a small piece of fiberglass mat (you can buy at auto parts store) and then use a good epoxy (usually comes with the 'glass mat anyway). Let is set up...
