I got mine from Mid-America two years ago. As stated above, it is not too difficult to put in or remove for cleaning. I don't drive the car in bad weather or the winter, so I am not sure how or if it would affect the rear defogger.
Unleaded Fuel Label
Daryllawman, The 1979 AIM states that the label is centered on the Fuel Door. If your '79 does not have the rear spoiler, the label is.75 inches forward of the the Rear Fascia. If you have the Rear Spoiler, it is .25 inches rearward of the finger indentation in the spoiler...
1979 Carpet Replacement
Andy & Barry, I'm in the process of replacing my carpet in my '79. I too got my carpet from Knoch's, but I unfortunately didn't get the door carpeting. I made a bad assumption that it would be included. Oh well, live and learn.(FYI, I found a very good copy of my build...
Very nice paint and wheels. I especially liked seeing that you didn't have to take the car completely down to bare fiberglass. My ' 79 is red/red with both sets of T-tops and seeing yours car gives me something to strive for. Nice job!!!
OK all, I'm looking for advice again. This week I FINALLY got my 79 on the road. It has been a long, slow process putting in my Kiesler 5-speed, new interior and true dual exhaust system. Coming home from work yesterday I decided to get off the x-way to drive the car a bit. When accelerating...
Thanks to all who have chimed in. There is also a 7 page discussion going on in the C4 forum about the same topic. Two years ago I had to have my radiator repaired because of a leak. At that time, I also had all of the hoses replaced. I didn't even think about replacing the thermostat or water...
I have a leaking water pump on my 79 L-82, I am planning on replacing it with a Stewart Short Stage 2 pump. They recommend also replacing the thermostat and recommend either a 160 or 180 degree Robert Shaw unit. I've searched the forum and can't find any articles or specifications on the...
Bought my 79 from the original owner two years not far from where I work. Got the maintenance records, window sticker and all of the smog parts that he removed from the car.
87 Greenwood Coupe,
Sorry it has taken so long to get back. For some reason, I was unable to connect to CAC from home this weekend. HAve you found the fuseblock info yet? If not, I'll look in my manual when I get home tonight.
IP Fuses
87 Greenwood - According to my 1979 Manual, the Instrument Lamps are a 6 Amp fuse. There is a 20 Amp fuse that protects the Clock,Lighter, Courtesy, Anti-Theft Alarm, Glove Box and Dome. There is also a 10 Amp fuse for the Gages/Telltale Lamps, Seat Belt Buzzer Lamps and Relays (Power...
Thanks, Tom. I too am not a mechanic. I use the manuals and hope to get everything back together correctly. I was just trying to save spending a couple hundred plus to buy a new shifter. Tom
Shifter linkage
I too am starting to do some work on my 79 shifter and linkage. Tomtom72 brings up a concern that I hadn't thought about. I bought a shifter rebuild kit and I assume I will have to remove the shifter to get these parts replaced, but I didn't think that this would cause an...
Carlisle
Rob, Very nice summary of the activity at Carlisle. The dash at night is awesome. I got to see it lit up after dark while we walked among the hundreds of cars that made the "cruise" to downtown Carlisle. The only disappointment was seeing a PINK C6 from Kerbeck. I hope they repaint...
Has anyone added a GPS or Lojac type tracking system to their C3? Since seeing that C3 era Corvettes are among the most stolen cars, I think I'm getting paranoid and thinking of adding a security system to my '79. Any info would be appreciated.
Bob, I appreciate you taking the time to look up the information in a Chevrolet Shop Manual. Neither one of the manuals that I have is a "Chevrolet" manual. Thanks again for the information. Tom
Thanks to all who have offered their suggestions. I wonder what manual you have to buy to get this information. The two I have sure don't address these problems.
