I would chek to see if the theft protection has been set. I thing that once the radio comes out, you have to enter the code to unlock it. Maybe someone else can chime in here if thats not the case.
This is one of the most common problems with C5s. Mine went back to the dealer about 5 times. They finally called GM was told to replace the entire differential (under extended warranty). No problems since then (Nov 2007). Good luck in getting yours stopped.

Jim gives you good advice. Right now we're enjoying good weather in SLC but we've already had two snow storms this last month. A southern route makes more sense to me. Put the I-80 idea on hold because you would enjoy it much more in the summer. Good luck and let us know how the trip goes.
