    Question: Replacing the alternator

I did. I replaced the alternator with a remanufactured one. Easy-peasy. And I took the idea from SS327 to rotate the housing so the wire didn't have to stretch as far. 👍🏻

CruiseFest... Getting the band back together?

My last Corvette event was MidAmerica FunFest where I proposed to my wife. So that was...2010??? I'm thinking a date sometime around mid-August 2024 or maybe even 2025. Although just saying 2025 sounds soooo far away to be planning anything...especially for something more casual like I had in...

CruiseFest... Getting the band back together?

So Rowdy and I struck up a brief conversation that took a quick turn down memory lane. And it reignited the thought of having another CruiseFest. Ya know, getting the bandmates back together for a reunion tour. It's been 12+ years since the last one. Doesn't need to be anything fancy. No...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

I kept forgetting to update this thread... Replaced the alternator and all the gremlins noted above have disappeared, except for the antenna. I think I just have a flaky connection because it has occasionally decided to operate as it should.

Question: Conversion of interior/dash lights to LED?

Thanks, Doug! I'll give 'em look!

Question: Conversion of interior/dash lights to LED?

Is anyone aware of a conversion kit or direct replacement LED for any interior lights? In particular, the dash & cluster are pretty dim, even when turned up to full. There are times I'd like it all to be a bit brighter!

    Question: Replacing the alternator

Thanks, Tom. I haven't put the alternator back in [to check voltage at the battery] since I'm gonna be replacing it today or tomorrow. Fingers-crossed that many or all of these problems go away with the replacement. However, when I did check voltage at the battery prior to removal, it was in...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

This would seem to be the case. In that case, based on my (in)ability to locate the proper rectifier, would be to replace the alternator again for $45. (I gotta wonder though why these remans are $45 and brand new ones are in the $140+ range.) I went back and check power across the...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

More updates... Since I had some time today, I replace the battery for a new one and I took the alternator off and opened it up to bench test. Using my ohmmeter, I first tested rectifier bridge. My testing instructions said to... Start with the (A) Grounded Heatsink. One of my leads on the...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

Tom, so I wasn't quite reading between the lines in your final paragraph about checking things on "Bat 3" terminal and "Ign 3" terminal. That notwithstanding, I went ahead put in a brand new battery and recorded some results of various scenarios. Table of "Did it turn on?" w plug and w/o...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

Thanks, Tom! I'll give it a shot. So here's an update. In my recent post above, I forgot to mention that when I parked the car and ignition was off, the accessories were still running, as in, blower and everything were still active. When I unplugged that regulator wire, everything shut down...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

So why not follow up on my own thread??? 😄 Up above, I said, So, yeah, same thing this year. Annnnd I think I fried a component in the alternator again. This time, my battery light and choke light comes on, and gets brighter as the RPMs go up. And I get the faintest lil'...

    1980 door locks

I removed my power locks long ago. They were bunged up and not working either. Now I just pull/push the manual lock mechanism. They are still a lil' tight, but it's been that way for as long as I've owned the car. (28 years) Sorry, I realize that doesn't really answer your question.

Possibly my water pump squeals at high RPM?

Good call, Tom. I'll give that a shot!

Possibly my water pump squeals at high RPM?

So yeah, about that... I have redundant belts on my water pump because when I first got this engine, my driving habits lead to me spinning off the single belt. It's been a very long time since I turned a wrench on my engine. Is there an 'easy' way to remove the redundant belt just so I can...

Possibly my water pump squeals at high RPM?

For a while, I've had some squealing coming from under the hood when I get up to 3500 RPM (no load) and 4000 RPM (w/load). A little later, my alternator failed so I assumed that was probably the squeal I was hearing. Alternator has been replaced and the squeal is still there. I popped open the...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

Yeah. Since Summit Racing is only 30 minutes from me, I just went up there today and picked up the reman. Even though it was a 10si (I guess that's a form-factor designation?), it was pretty much a direct swap. The bolts were a little smaller with this unit and the wings(?) for mounting it were...

    Recommendation Request for Vette-centric Techs

Welcome, @lothian ! I'm assuming you bought your car from out of town, and that asking for a local reference from the previous owner wouldn't be relevant. While it's been slightly more than a day since there was any activity, maybe you can find something in the Southeast forums here...

    Question: Replacing the alternator

This is the only rebuild kit I've been able to find online, and it's not available for two weeks. Anyone have other references where I can buy the rebuild kit? Otherwise, I'll just pop for a whole new unit. Example

    Question: Replacing the alternator

At this point, my time is more valuable than what I'd spend testing individual pieces. As I understand it, the rebuild kits come with "everything", so I'll replace "everything". I'm not going to tear into it to replace only the diode trio and not the brushes or whatever else is in the kit...
