It is dead here... well, anyway - could be plugs are too hot. Chasing that will post results. Right now I'm running NGK R5724-8's racing plugs. My compression may be too high to handle these... we'll see.
I'm now dropping SA's and it doesn't seem to be losing power. Going to continue to play with this. Still getting some knocks. Engine set at 8* BTDC and below is my latest SA table. To me (certified amateur) SA's look low but this may be the answer. They look low to anyone else???? Knocks at...
Forever if you have no experience and modified the engine. Take it from one who knows....:boogie Sorry for sarcasm. It is a pretty steep learning curve if you are not already familiar EFI tuning. Don't let that discourage you though. Me? I'm retired and if I didn't have my "84 to occupy my time...
Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I found a leak in the rubber hose (evap line) near tank neck. Also found evap solenoid defective and decided to replace the canister just cause it looks original (=34 yrs old). Repaired lines they now hold a vacuum and waiting on parts. Hope that does it...
Trouble shooting gas odor - getting gas odor under heavy acceleration (more noticeable when tank above 1/2 full), will also get gas odor from rear as sun heats back of car area and slight odor noticed in garage as car sits overnight. Checked under hood, odor does not appear to be coming from...

Vacuum Readings?
Kane, sounds like your making good progress. Great! I on the other hand have had nothing but issues every inch of the way on my "84. Actually had to walk away from the tuning for a period of time it got so frustrating. Currently refurbing the interior. Anyway, I have a similar...
"84's ??
For those who steal the "84's (I own one) - you could be a little more discriminating. :D
PS: I love my cantankerous "84. It is (or will be) somthin' special.
Been working my "84 for about a year now, progress has come with pain - proving the old adage. Just finished a parallel plumb and added an external VAC referenced fuel pressure regulator. Tuning comes next - an area that's all new ground for me. Hoping to get smart I just picked a book titled -...
Thanks for thr reply. Replaced the sensor and all is well now - good reference for others. Advice - drain coolant first, yes I did but read about others who were very sorry they short cut it.
Getting a reading of infinite resistance on my knock sensor ("84 Vette). My research is unclear on this. Anyone know for sure if this is an indication of a bad knock sensor?
Thanks, I actually sealed "em. Will see how long they last. Vac issue may be resolved.
Buy often fron Rock Auto - usually the first place I go to check parts/prices.
My "84 has a vacuum issue which I'm having a difficult time resolving. Today I tried the cigar smoke test and found both the IACs leaking from the back where the motor is housed. Do I need to replace them or is that typical of a good IAC?
I inadvertentlty started my "84 with the number 2 piston spark plug out. I heard this very loud knocking. That normal? Ran for about 10 seconds and I shut it off. Plugs back in, ran it for a about a minute and it was hard to tell if there's still a knocking because the car is loud and could be...
Update - Playing with some of the basics right now. (Whew - long post eh?)
Timing finally tweaked after wasting a day looking for the EST connection (the "tan wire" actually has a black stripe on it). Found the timing at ~ 20 BTDC so I adjusted to ~ 10.
Checked FP - at 15 lbs.
Did the...
ECM back with fix and installed. Still a long way from where I want to be but I'm getting closed loop, the O2S and ECM are dancing, and she's running more civil than ever.
