I just paid 13K for mine. we did remove all of the paint as well as change the body mounts.
But I must agree you get what you pay for.

ok now i am concerned. what is the color of the oil? I the increase of the oil level has to come from somewhere.
what was the oil pressure like when the car started to act up?
I do believe that the 82 vette has the L83 engine so it would have an electric fuel pump located in the fuel tank to feed the cross fire fuel injection. You should definitely not run the engine again until you figure out the cause. what is the coolant level?
I am a little late to this rodeo but the only thing that i can add to this is that for flat tappet engines Like ours we need Zinc and Phosphorus. the new oils do not have enough zddp to protect the cams from wear.

Castrol sytech offers a special formula with higher levels of ZDDP...

Maybe edelbrock, gmpp, or RHS heads I would love a set of dart but they are very expensive i want to stay with cast iron, so that it keeps the stock look.

The only thing that I can add is that I have sent these guys a few e-mails asking about some parts for my '81 and I have never had a response. After reading this I guess it was a god thing. :beer
