Finally have my car out of storage and did the firmware update. Pretty easy to do and doesn't take long. I did have to reset some of my radio settings, but not a big deal. Props to GM for getting this fix out there.
Have the same issue going on, discovered it when pulling my car out of storage for the driving season. Haven't seen anything official from GM that even acknowledges there is an issue, never mind a fix for it. A fix would likely require some new software for the system in the car, not holding...
My question pertains to the apparent visible location of the HUD in the "window" in the dash where it is projected from. My seating position and left vs. right eye dominance places the display at the very edge of the window. It is possible to shift the display up/down, but left to right? Does...
Strut rods
They are undamaged, have approximately 10K miles on them. I ran them until I put the first set of tires on the car and had an alignment done. I can get you a few pics if you like. They've been under the bench in my shop for the last 20 years or so. Asking price is "reasonable...
My '89 is gone, have a few leftover bits that need a good home:
-New blue tint glass top w/padded case - never installed in vehicle. The original top was damaged in an accident. My insurance replaced it, but the body color top stayed in the car the remainder of the time I owned it.
-Factory...
My C6 is coming out of storage and will be fired up for the first time in 6 months. With my C4, I would always unhook the ignition coil so i could crank the engine until oil pressure would build before I actually started the engine. Is there any way to do a similar thing easily with a "modern"...
ECM data
Out of curiosity, have you run through the procedure to set "minimum air"? Do the throttle plates move freely? Is the idle higher than normal? The reason I ask is that if the MAF sensor is showing more air through the throttle plates than there should be - almost like the throttle...
I've been digging around the corners of my new toy ('08 Z06) and found a couple odd things - posting here because the items probably aren't unique to the Z06. Since I don't have my manuals yet, I've taken pics in hopes that someone can help identify the items. In the compartment under the...
Good/bad hub?
You'll want to check for play in the hub before removal. Once removed, feel for smooth rotation (no rough or tight spots). I agree with the comment about replacing the u-joints while you're in there. My hubs outlasted the u-joints, but I changed all at the same time while I had...
Open vs. closed
I agree with previous comments about "open loop" engine management being the norm under limited circumstances only (during warmup in particular). Normally, if the engine were to go into open loop management during normal driving, it would be the result of an "out of normal...
Noises...
I read your description at the beginning, sounds much like the typical "dry u-joint" sound. But, I will mention that I've had a bearing hub fail in such a way that there was a rough "spot" in it. It would make noise while driving (sounded different turning left vs. right), but the...
Relays and misc.
The link Hib posted contained the "extra" information I referred to earlier. I hoped someone else would come up with it. With the relays, try searching some of the national auto parts chains (whatever is local to you). I don't recall having too much trouble locating them...
Troubleshooting
I'm most familiar with the system on my '89, but assume it's basically the same. There is a decent amount of diagnostic stuff in my FSM not pertaining to the factory ABS testing tool. Runs through the typical troubleshooting of specific components in the system, lists sensor...
Confusion.....
While I can see Corvette in it, it would have been just as believable to announce it as a new sport coupe from Cadillac....or the next Camaro.
Camadillette?
Z06
No movement yet. To a certain degree, I was waiting to see what effect the "grand unveiling" might have on the market. Being in the northern reaches of the country, my daily driver now has 4wd and my Vette is tucked away in the back corner of my garage until spring anyway. I do appreciate...
Thanks for the reply. No argument a Z06 would be overkill for most (all?) of my driving, but is there such a thing as too much HP? I certainly hear the sensible argument about buying something a couple years newer and a bit less extreme, but Z51's similar to my current Vette are difficult to...
As it sounds, this is a "curiosity" question from someone who would eventually like to upgrade his 20+yr old Vette. Economics dictate that only something pre-owned would fall into a price range I would be comfortable with. In addition, I tend to keep my vehicles for many years. So, are there...
Been there, done that....
Looks just about like it does in real life - makes me jump watching it hit. I have to guess the collision speed wasn't that high - maybe 80mph +/-, judging from the amount of damage experienced with my own misadventure. I agree it was fortunate the deer didn't end up...
