    Transporting vehicle out-of-state

I need a quick reply on this one... I just sold my Vette and the purchaser is flying in to Michigan to pick it up on Monday. He will be driving it to South Carolina, where it is to be shipped to France. My question is - can he legally drive it from Michigan to South Carolina without a plate...

    Need info on a '56

Hi Guys, I normally hang out in the C3 section, but have a question for you... A friend has an opportunity to buy a '56 with 55K original miles. It is billed as a "survivor" with everything original and in pretty good shape (so he is told). The guy is asking $50K for it. Is this a good...

Removong Locking Lug Nuts with no key?

I lost my key and had them removed at my local tire store. They did it for free while I waited.

    Do it yourself seat recovering

I recovered my seats myself and they turned out pretty good. I made it one of my winter projects and took my time. I would do it again.

    Oil leak question

I have a '76 and if I'm not careful when I pull ou the dipstick, I can also pull out the dipstick tube. In other words, it's loose an yours may be, too. You may have just unseated the dipstick tube - make sure its seated.

Dumb question I have been meaning to ask

Oh, that makes sense. No wonder I couldn't find a bulb - I was looking in the wrong place. Thanks for checking, Heidi! Brian

Dumb question I have been meaning to ask

Are the controls for heat/air conditioning supposed to be lit up when the lights are on ('76 Vette)? I have had the console apart twice looking for a bulb, but couldnt' find anything. If it is supposed to be lit, where is the bulb? Thanks!

Need advice - major clutch problem

(sorry for the long thread) I really need some expert advice about the 4-speed transmission/clutch on my ‘76 L-82. The symptom is that when the clutch is at the friction point, I hear a high speed whine, sort of like an electric drill on metal. When the clutch has been fully engaged for more...

    Painting aluminum wheels

I painted the black inserts on my '76 a year ago. I used a coffee can for a stencil and they turned out perfect (no taping necessary).

    Underhood "Cleanup"

Oops - I should have noted that it was an '81. :duh

    Underhood "Cleanup"

John, You may want to check your timing. I was getting 10 mpg before I discovered that the mechanical advance on my HEI distributor was frozen. By fixing the distributor (and recurving it) my mileage jumped to 14 MPG - city driving and the power increase was off the charts. A frozen...

Anyone ever use Bar's Leaks Radiator Stop Leak?

...and if you add the power steering pump to the list, you might as well do the four PS hoses, too.

Anyone ever use Bar's Leaks Radiator Stop Leak?

OK, you got all that, Dave Z? Radiator, water pump, fan clutch, timing gear & chain. While you are at it, you might as well degrease and paint everything you can get at with all this stuff out. And you thought you were looking at buying a can of Bart's leak. :L

Anyone ever use Bar's Leaks Radiator Stop Leak?

Your idea of replacing the water pump while doing this job is a good one. I recored my radiator four years ago. Two weeks after I reinstalled it, the water pump started to leak. It would have been a lot easier if I had done both at the same time. By the way, the recored radiator looked like...

Do I need a new leaf spring? *pics*

Your left side exhaust looks a little low to me. I had the same issue. I took it to a muffler shop and for $25 they buttened everything up where it was supposed to be. No more bottoming out.

Timing question - do I have a problem??

Thanks for all the suggestions. This is a geat learning experience. Bob, in response to your coment about the 12 degrees of advance at 1000 RPM's, this is the spec for the L82 engine. I believe the '76 and '77 engines are exactly the same. My timing light does not have a dial on it. I...

Timing question - do I have a problem??

Thanks, guys. Good advice. The vacuum advance does seem to be working. I'll lube those weights in the distributor then reset the timing. I read something about installing lighter springs in order to achieve total advance at lower RPM's. For anyone who has done this, is there a recommended...

Timing question - do I have a problem??

I have owned a '76 L82 for the past 4 years, and just did my first complete tune-up. (I'm a novice with this stuff but have been muddling through a lot of repair projects.) It has always run really well and I did the tune-up more for the experience than anything else. I changed the dist. cap...

350 w/posi, shouldn't you leave some rubber on the road?

Ruby76, I agree with some of these posts - you have something out of whack. I have a nearly stock '76 L82 with 255x60's and I can SMOKE those tires when I pop the clutch.

    76 hood insulation

The insulation is there for sound deadening not heat protection. You should not have a problem with paint blistering on a '76 if you remove it. I replaced mine three years ago and the new insulation is almost as dirty as what I replaced. I plan to remove it alltogether and paint the underside...
