Apparently the GM brass is not overly fond of the Camaro nose on the new unreleased Vettes. The rumor from the Milford test track is that the sides and rear are acceptable, but the Camaro styled nose is not going to be around very much longer. It`s not considered what a Vette should look like. Probably by 07. Also for those of you attending the Woodward Cruise look for GM`s new Chevelle with throwback styling and a huge Big Block under the hood, possibly a 572. I guess the Austrailian GTO is also a flop. ;)

My guess is what you hear out of Milford is just rumors. If you were actually in a position to report any facts, you wouldn't be able to do so. Sounds like most of what you say is, pardon the expression...B.S.

As for the Corvette being "unrleased" that statement alone indicates you know little about what you are trying to start rumors about. The 2005 Corvette has already been released for sale. In fact, some have already been sold. Dealers will begin deliverys probably next week.

Anyone who thinks the C6 nose is "Camaro-styled" either isn't looking at a Corvette or is smoking crack.

When you put a C6 next to an F-car IV, other than having exposed lights, the front ends don't look the same. I'm in a position to know. I own an F-car and I've seen and driven the C6.

GM's "new" Chevelle?
Whoa, I gotta see this, especially the huge Big Block.

Now...would this "new" Chevelle be a car which GM is going to produce for sale or is this a show car that'll never see the inside of an assembly plant much less a dealership

He said the nose would be gone by '07. That is very understandable, doesn't sound like much BS to me.

As for a new chevelle, it wouldn't surprise me one bit either... GM is trying to get buyers back with some retro styling, and bringing back the classic cars. the GTO has a cult following that they are trying to capitalize on now, and while I don't think it has done well the first year, next year's updates should help out sales.

The Chevelle is another classic that makes sense to bring back.

See For Yourself!

Pardon the resemblance! I guess people from California have some sensory defects and cannot see very well. I too have Vettes and several Camaros including this one. By the way, unreleased is not available for delivery. Not that it couldn`t be ordered. Anybody have one in their garage? http://www.nitroalley.net/images/a253s.jpg:upthumbs See for yourself!

Although I dig the f bodies..I'm not too sure I see the need for GM to revamp the front end of the c6 corvette because it does or does not resemble the camaro..

GM might change the front end in 2007 but who knows Y or if they will maybe because they want it to closer resemble the C6 Z06 .etc..or maybe just to get a decent front plate mount!

I don't see any resemblence at all...

I doubt with cars on their way to dealers that suddenly the GM brass hates the front end because "it's not how a Corvette should look..." Besides being one of the most rediculous things I've heard in a while, where was the GM brass when the car was being designed? Suddenly it's unacceptable?

Perhaps in '07 there will be a change to address the front plate bracket everyone hates or perhaps to make it similar to the Z06 if there is a difference as JB suggested. Given tooling costs I don't see it happening.

Leon

If someone has contacts with GM this would be interesting to check out, rather than dismiss out of hand. As I recall, if we were to dig through prior messages on this FOrum about the time that the design was first shown, a number of people mentioned a resemblance in the front end to the last Camaro, not just the gentleman who was taken to task on this thread. My own prediction (stated elsewhere) is that this entire design will be replaced relatively soon.

Hib does have a point. How can the 'unreleased' Vette be unreleased if you can go to Chevrolet.com and build your own.

Also, I see NO resemblence between the C6 and a Camaro.

I'm with Hib on his entire reply. As for the GTO, it's no secret that sales have been slow. Look for SLP to hopefully boost sales in the coming months. Big block Chevelle....someone is smoking crack to believe that. GM might build one for fun, but don't EVER expect one at your local showroom.

Now I'm just as much against rumour milling as the next person, so wanting to hear the truth of a matter is important to me too.

However, the smoking-crack and BS remarks only detract from your image, not his. It is possible to discuss a thing without making it a personal affront.

You spread rumors, be prepared to face the consequences.

Here's 3 cars that all have similarities...Go to the Viper forum and tell them a Viper looks like a Camaro and see what happens. Just because there are similarities, does NOT mean they look alike.

People also compared the C6 to the RX-8 and S2000 and pretty much any other car with exposed headlights. I think I recall Taurus being called out.

I agree with Gorgon. Gm brass didn't just get involved with the car as they were loading the units on the car trailers. I'm with Hib, you must be smoking crack to see a Camaro resembelance. Iron cross my aunt once told me." a lie is just as good as the truth if someone else believes it." I'm sure there will be updates to the car. They certainly won't pull the car as soon as it comes out- NO WAY..............

Thanx for mentioning this. I was going to say the same thing. The professional is lacking a little professionalism. :) :beer :) I, however, wouldn't mind if GM did change the C6 looks.

Iron Cross referred to '07 as when it will be changed, not before it comes out (too late anyway) or otherwise. Re-Read the post.

The fact that the C6 is compared to other cars is a late model thing... C5 and C6 only. The reason for the comparison is they really look like other cars. No one can tell me that the C6 doesn't have strong styling cues from the viper. the lights, hood, front quarters and sides all have STRONG similarities.

Corvette has always had a few cues here and there from other cars, but they always stood their own ground as an original.

I want someone to show me a car that came out prior to '84 that has strong similarities to the C4, same goes for anything pre-68 for the C3 or pre-63 on the C2.... Corvette used to be original, now it is a much more generic car.

That is why there are 'rumors' that the car will change quickly. I am sure that there are many people at GM that want a more unique Corvette... like they used to be, so I certainly expect an update in only a couple of years to make the car more original.... although, if they are selling like mad; that may not happen:(

All rumors asside it's no secret the vette has shared styling similarities with the camaro after the C3. The similarities are obvious and unappealing. I swore I would never get a C5 because the front looked so much like a camaro and I couldn't stand it. I felt the same way about the C4.
Nothing has looked as good as the C3 styling and the vette continues to evolve awkwardly. Everything after the C3 is not that easy on the eyes and takes some getting used to. The rear of the C5 is great as was the C4. The fronts appear to be at a loss for ideas and appears no better for the C6. I got a C5 for the improvemnets in driving and performance. I could complain all year long about the styling of both the C4 and C5. But I'll reserve that for complaining about the awkward looking front of the C6 now. There's strait edges on the fenders for god's sake and it's looks like it smiling. I'm not impressed so far. Pricing reflects the fact they were able to lower the production costs by incorporating more traditional and generic manufacturing. Gone as the complex light buckets in exchange for cheap plastic "fixed" headlight assy. The general looks of the C6 is even more porportunately flawed than the C5 was.

Pictures are deceiving when comparing the viper. The viper has refined the cockpit to that similar to the C3 when seen in person whcih is very tight and small. Standing next to a corvette the viper displays a solid 40K more in styling. The front and rear are more aggressive and the general styling is porportunate and not flawed in the least. With the center of the car being thiner like the C3's were.
I would say the manufacturing philosophies are completely different. They made the viper a visually perfect car and then mechanically sorted things into it. The vette is more mechanically perfect with styling as an after thought.

Richard.

C5Richard, thank you for your input, I find your views are coherent. Even though I don't agree with you 100% I understand your opinion and your replies appear to be thought out.

I've seen Vipers but not right next to a C6. That would help me compare them. I do see a strong resemblence to the headlights and their positioning.

At the risk of much flack, I have to confess if I could afford a Viper I would have one in my Corvette's place.

No doubt things are different, and I am sure I would never mistake one for the other... don't get me wrong there.... I agree with your philosophy statement too... I definitely thing Viper is style, then function. But, they have got the function part down too.

I am with Sharondippity... If the Vipers were a bit cheaper, the vette would be long gone. It is nice that Dodge has the guts to put out cars that are different... I just can't justify the price tag at this point

Wow, Hib! With the exception of your first paragraph, it sounds like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

You should cut Iron Cross some slack on the "unreleased" comment. I doubt he was actually trying to give out inaccurate information on purpose...it was more a mistake of wording. He likely meant that they aren't all over the dealership lot's just yet.

I've owned and been around more than a few Camaro's myself, and I can totally see people finding a resemblance between Camaro and Corvette front ends. (And I haven't smoked crack in at least 10 years! :L ) Resemblance doesn't automatically mean it looks exactly alike, ya know? Not to mention, one person might think it looks Camaro-ish and the next person might not. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, you just didn't have to go on the offensive when voicing yours!

I think that would be a no brainer. If I had a spare 80k I'd do the same. The new style reminds me of the TVR's. Much better looking than the old vipers.
I guess I'll be a C6 malcontent. The strait vertical edge on the side of the fenders just gets my goat to no end.
