1/4 Results for my 383 Crossfire...

I tried to change it but apparently it did not take. I will always think of my 84 as a crossfire because of the dual tb's.

I was just kidding.
I do here some of the Crossfire manifolds, with proper porting, can turn out some pretty decent numbers. The X-Ram just has much more potential.

Do you know how to tell the difference between a early case and the redsigned one.
No, but I have pics of a broken one. Reviewing them, I doubt they will help much, as I seem to recall that the webbing on the side was different, but Jerry would probably know.

I guess it really doesn't matter. If it breaks, you change it, as will I, if mine does. :w

Cajun C4 - I tried change it due to the sensitivity of the Crossfire folks. There are drawbacks to the XRam as you are well aware. But it works... I am waiting patiently for my siemesed manifold to test. But that does not seem to be in the cards at this time - I have not got it. I would prefer to use it if it works out.

WP - I will contact Jerry once I get a chance. Right now my focus is figuring out the idle with the 7747 and those awful IACs. I am going to try a 454 bin as a starter. I have my SA and BLM tables pretty good for now. I just wish I could control the idle better.

I wanna see! I wanna see! Seems I might just have to drive over to AZ! :w

The one on the right is the stock D36 from my 86 if that helps. The other one is the SWEET D44 I replaced it with :D

WOW big difference. How difficult was the swap?

WP - Come on down. Personally I would wait until Sept or Oct. Yesterday it was 112... :W

Here's a shot from the rear. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/fry747/MyVette/Dana44over36closer.jpg

I read that one member merely bolted it in, but lost the endplay in the driveshaft. Another redrilled the diffy mount holes on his existing C-beam.

That works for me. I'm more of a cool guy.

BTW, great vids. I finally watched them.

I hope any dyno runs are more satisfying than mine. To be truly accurate, they should be calibrated before each run. My car was merely rolled on, following some runs by a 427 VW.

Bolted right up, gonna put the new Beam Plates on soon :D Actually, it is from a 90 or 91 and I think it's wider than the 36, which may be why my tires stick out further with the 86 wheels an the 315's than most others seem to.

Never even had to line it up, tracks perfectly, and perfect tire wear ;)

Mine bolted right up also. I got a C-beam and drive shaft from a manual tranny. Had the shaft balanced, and used my yoke (new U-joints also). Didn't have to get an alignment either. Tracks perfect with no un-normal tire wear, besides the tendency to :lou every now and then. Right now Im having it rebuilt (pinion bearing) while its out I'm putting in all poly bushings in the back.

Moon I think you are right about it being wider. I bet that has something to do with the backspacing difference (36mm vs 52mm) Mine is a 91 or 92 rear and the tire track / position in the wheel-well stayed the same.

Ya know, I really need to check on that, because, I have the earlier brakes, which were smaller. Funny thing is, My 11's with the 86 offset seem to stick out further than others, but 335's on sawblades (9.5's) seem to sit in too far :confused

nice run man! just think if you were at sea level that would of been a 12.9 ET :D don't forget your at 50,000 feet......lol

car is running very strong!

i met a guy here with a heads cam crossfire and that car sounds pretty mean. love those crossfires keep it up ;)

Jim...if I can rebuild a 700R4 I know you can ;) I love the shift kit...you can watch the nose raise up when it hits 2nd...even under mild throttle!

I know I need to get you your siamesed manifold. I really wanted to test a different method...but you may have to be the one to test it. I really think it'll outperform that POS X-ram. Mine even with the "mild" siamese on a basically stock 350, stock heads, and the Crane 2050 cam will pull to 5500RPM (at 6000ft). It really was a different beast at sea level....it performed SOOO much better, had a nice distinct "lope" to it (got a couple comments about that a Cruisefest, heheh), and idled a LOT better than up here in this elevation.

I also want to try getting rid of the big EGR channel inside the plenum...the fuel distribution on this thing is just terrible.

The "puddling" is only an issue on the first run, right? :D :w

Cross Fire's puddle usually at idle and after shut down. thats why when u restart them they sometimes sound like they are loaded up a bit. That is because the raw fuel left after shut down funnels to the back 2 cylinders. Cross Fire Vettes are still awesome Vettes in my book.

:beer

Puddling is not that big of a deal...so the idle's a little rough, who cares. ;)

Fuel distribution is a different problem. Cylinders 1 & 2 run the richest...and they get leaner as you go back to 7 & 8...and guess where the EGR "obstruction" is in the plenum, right between the rear ports.

Bill - I know you have been busy that is why I have not pushed. I am more than willing to give it a go.

I am waiting for the transmission jack to go on sale at harbor freight which generally happens every couple of months. Besides it is just too damn hot in the garage these days. I also need to build some ramps/supports but that needs to keep for a couple of weeks plus it is just too damn hot in the garage. Yessterday my indoor/outdoor thermometer read 105.6 and oh yea it was in the friggen garage.....:W

Aw C'mon Man! It's a dry heat :L Oh yea, i forgot to mention, in case you didn't know. When swapping to a D44 it's best to have the whole batwing, cage and driveshaft from the 44. People have used the 36's driveshaft and cage but it takes some modifications ;)

Your funny... Heat is heat... Tomorrow I get to figure out why the valves that control the vents are not working properly... And yes I will be doing it in the heat of the garage. Luckily my portable has been rejouvenated.

And fans,in that environ are called convection ovens! :w

Jim, make sure to keep us updated on your progress with the siamesed intake! (my turn to bug you now, :L)

I can't wait to see how that's gonna work out.
