My friend has a 64 with 327/300 powerglide all stock inlcuding afb carb. We can't get the tranny to kick down. We adjusted the kickdown linkage in two turns(no change) then we adjusted out 4 turns still no change. Anybody have any suggestions. Thanks.
There is some info in the 1963 manual and, if I remember correctly, in the AIM on linkage adjustment. I had a similar problem with my 65 after going with a new Edelbrock carb. Once I got the linkage adjusted, it shilfts up at about 20-25mph (depending on accel) and when I kick down hard it will throw into the lower gear.
Holler back if you need more info. I can scan the pages and send files to you.
It's been some time since I've done this, BUT as I recall.....
Disconnect the kickdown rod. Pull the powerglide "detent" lever all the way forward to "full detent".
Have a bud hold the throttle to the floor....make sure the carb is full open. With the carb full open...and the pedal on the floor....AND the detent pulled forward to "full detent".....adjust the kick down rod so it slide into the hole.
That's how I've always done it. There is a special Kent Moore tool for setting these up.....nobody owns the "tool". Chuck
