1967 coupe / new carpets:

I seem to remember that the floor carpet had rectangular cuts where the seat-track brackets mount to floor. Is this correct?

I forget how much of the carpet was glued down. I think that at least the rear bulkhead wall (coupe); the wrap over on the luggage stop; and the storage compartment cardboard were glued in place. Anywhere else? Rear wheelwells? Leading edge of floors (behind pedals, etc.)

How much overhang is required in areas like the rear carpets pieces down into the storage compartment ledge? Should the carpet rise up the transmission tunnel and then fold over the edge (of the surface area where the console sits) about an inch? Same inch along the door sills?

I remember that the rear wheelwell carpets were slit to hook over the quarter panel screw brackets -- (two per side) correct?

Any installation tips? I'm using the heat shield kit as well.

Thanks.

The factory carpets had "hinged flaps" (3-sided cutouts), if you will, to cover the bolt heads where the front of the tracks bolt to the floor; the "hinge" side of the flaps were closest to the centerline of the seat. At the rear, the tracks were on top of the carpet.

Thank you John. My friend Doug and I laid the carpet out in the car to give it a chance to settle into place and I started talking about my memories of how the original carpet fit.

He said, why not post your questions in C2....JohnZ will have the answers.

Now my friend, Doug, drives a real nice final year Camaro Z-28, but he knew from listening to me that JohnZ will have the answer. :upthumbs

NOTE: I'm still looking for others to jump in with installations tips and answers to glueing, trimming, etc.

The only advice I can give is

What ever type of glue you use make sure you have something to remove it.I used 3M heavey duty spray trim adhesave and also purchased there cleaner in a red can.

have plenty of surgical gloves available the glue was always on my hands as soon as the gloves got glue on them I took them off and put on a new clean pair.

I laid out every thing dry and test fitted and trimmed the minimum I needed to then I marked everthing with childrens driveway chalk removed then glued and reinstalled .Take your time here in test fitting.

As for the front area I took a set of bolts/screws and cut the heads off and sharpened them to a point.I screwed them into the gas pedal hold down boss in the floor.I then drilled holes in the gas pedal pad in the carpet and slipped them over the pointed bolts/screws to place it in the correct spot.

Also any place I needed to set a srew through the carpet I put a dab of crazy glue to avoid tearing the carpet with the screw.(the glue makes it a solid)

Have plenty of spare sharp razor blades availabile.A sharp knife is safer to use then a dull one and the carpet dulls them out pretty quick.

be of clear mind this is not a task to attempt if your slightly edgey.I did not enjoy this project I guess mostly because I was getting glue all over myself and the car and got slightley frustrated because I was doing it alone.

Good Luck.

Lastley remember I said trim the minimum you have to even with that in mind some how I almost over trimmed by my console area in between the seats
I just barely had enough carpet to be held in place by the console.

I am not sure how correct it was but

I glued everything on the carpet it self and let it tac up. then on the car it self I only sprayed the areas I thought needed it.pretty much the entire rear of the car except for the flat surface in the rear area.

and the same for the front area I did not spray the horizontal flat surfaces.
