I have read that AO Smith built a few 1967 Corvette 427 bodies in 1966 but couldn't master the painting of the hood stripe. All orders for the remaining 1967 427 Corvettes were only built in St Louis.
My 1967 Corvette VIN 194677S100560 was built in St Louis.
When the Corvette was delivered to Curhan Chevrolet in Randolph Massachusetts early September 1966, I could see Rally Red paint through the thin black painted hood stripe.
What a joke.
Dealer painted the top of hood with black paint under warranty.
