A 1968 Corvette is a Corvette, and Covette is all that need to be said
Anybody that would look at a 1968 with contempt, looks all Corvettes that way
and should sentenced to drive Mustangs till eternity

Alan is 100% correct. if anyone knows how you 68 owners feel it is us 84 owners. We get the same lame stories of how our 84's are so bad. I say we unite and Lynch em! :_rock

Hello everybody! I'm new here. I've been a long time lurker so I guess its about time to joined in. I love my 68 but it is kinda disheartening when someone makes a uncomplimentary remark about your pride and joy. This thread reminds of the time I was at a local cruise. My car was shined to the hilt and looking good. A man and his girlfriend walked up and I over heard him tell her that this was the worst of the lot. I later noticed he drove off in a midyear. You just gotta ignore it.:)

It is true that any first run vehicle is going to have problems... even in the midst of todays technology. When I was looking for a Vette, I was actually going to a local dealer to look at a 79. Upon going into his repair shop, the 68 was up on racks getting new brakes. I instanly changed my mind from the 79 to the 68. I mainly wanted it because it was the first year of the Stingray. Even though I've found various problems, it doesn't bother me. It's all a labor of love. I always wanted one since I was a kid, and now that I'm a first time owner, I would never give up my 68 for any other year. I think everyone has a "special" connection to the year they physically own for the first time. I with you Bryan!

Except 1968`s are not "stingrays"

Many feel that GM rushed the release of the mako shark design in 68 and feel it flawed the car. The 69' was supposed to be the actual unvailing, but they got it out in 68' trying to rush sales and such. Bugs are what most new modles where i believe no specific one.

Actually, I have the unique car. The shark was to be unveiled in 1967, but problems forced the delay to 1968. If original plans had gone through, the midyears would have included only 1963-66.

Wallyknoch... I don't know how you can say that. My 68 has "Stingray" plastered on each side of the vehicle.

Well, he's right. 68's did not have the 'Stingray' script on them. If your car has these emblems, they were added by a previous owner.

Thanks, someone added the emblems on his car or it`s not a 68. Another item not too infrequently added to 68`s are the 69`s chrome on the side gills where some subsequent owners currently think it was an option on the 68`s. Both items are incorrect.

I know for fact by the VIN# it's a 68, so I guess one of the previous owners added the emblems. I don't have the chrome side gills. So, exactly what years were the "Stingray"?

(Oh goody...here's where all those boringgggg economics lectures are going to really change my lot in life....okay...a lot of negative comments will decrease consumer confidence in the product and the price for the product will continue to slip...further eroding confidence in the product and causing more momentum for the price to slide...this will coincidently slow the demand for the product further, decreasing the sales activity of the product and invariably keeping said product in inventory for a longer period of time, causing less and less demand of the product and running the price down even further over time....okay...I got it!!)

"Yeah...those 68's were a real piece of crap!!! I knew a guy...or was it my brother in-law...who told me that the boys on the assembly line used to bondo their sandwiches into the rear quarter panels for sound deadening. I also heard that the transmission made so much noise that you had to have your mechanic put wood shavings in the pan to quiet her down. The worse thing was that they used the engine blocks that were left over from the Ford Edsels that never made it onto the show rooms..heard the General got a real good deal on 'em. Yup...those 68's were a real piece of junk. Oh while I'm on the topic...anybody out there have any 68's that they'd like me to take off their hands"

Yes...that was my attempt at being funny! Now come on...unless everyone out there in "car paradise" is on crack..why the heck wouldn't they want a 1968 Vette. This whole thing about "I buy cars for an investment" always hits me as being somewhat funny...that's like how I made $1 million in the stock market...I started with $3 million!!

It is certainly true that I do not own one of the rare high dollar cars but my goodness, I'll take first dibs on any 1968 that someone is willing to sell me. Okay, okay...I'm breathing deeply now....
