Power steering cylinder leaks at the rod seal. I took the cylinder off, removed the snapring, what do I do next? Will anything be damaged, if I just pull on the rod, by using the nut on the end of it, with a piece of pipe between it and the cylinder? Replacement seal kit is available. Any help will be appreciated.

How far did you get with it? It seems, that the rod does not want to come out, despite the fact, that the snap ring is removed.

Correct, the rod is NOT supposed to come out...Also, as I recall there are a total of 4 more metal washers/rubber gaskets behind the snap ring...

You are right, I just talked to Rick's Corvette parts, he re-confirms, that the back end of the cylinder has to be cut off to overhaul it, then welded back. For 80 bucks it is not worth it. I am wondering, how can I dislodge the washers behind the snapring, The guy at Rick's also mentioned washers, etc. behind the snapring. Maybe just the rubber washer has to be replaced to eliminate the slight leak. Thanks for your reply,

Try using a very thin flathead screwdriver to pry them out...I tried "slamming" the piston rod to try and dislodge them...it didn't work...I later used the screwdriver to poke around and after some gentle prying it came out easy...
