I understand there are 2 made in 1969 (where are they)

I guess that makes two confirmed, my 69 also has console stamped
427 ZL1 In the proper spot behind shifter, not original motor :confused but
just trying to find out what this means?

My guess is it means someone changed that plate on your car. There are only two ZL-1 Corvettes known to have been built, and both are accounted for. There is always the possibility of others, but without some serious documentation, it is difficult to prove.

Does your car have J-56 heavy-duty brakes, J-50 power brakes, F-41 heavy-duty suspension, K-66 Transistor Ignition, G-81 Positraction Rear Axle? These, and other items, were mandatory L-88/ZL-1 options.

there were more than 2 made just 2 sold to the public.

I have owned this car since 1987, this was not a selling point when
I purchased the car, I dont know what connections the original owner had with
GM, it also has a prototype rear window (Mako Shark) , (thanks for the info. also motorman,)

Some nut jobs, say only two were ever built. There have been many "factory" built and raced, in the NE in the 60s. I was there!

Thanks Mike, thats the kind of info. I was looking for it would explain why others do exist in some shape or form.

Chevrolet records record two as being sold. The Daytona yellow coupe and Monaco orange convertible do have factory paperwork to prove their provenance. A third white coupe also has paperwork and provenance, back to the original purchaser, however I do not believe there is any factory paperwork to support this car.

I believe that Fran Preve who worked at the Tonawanda engine plant shows records of 194 built ZL-1 engines being produced. Also a memorandum from Chevrolet Engineering shows that 7 ZL-1's were shipped from Tonawanda to Warren, MI for test mules. Supposedly the white convert and orange coupe may have been two of the test mules that are often shown in Car mags of the time. Five of the seven engines were returned to Tonawanda facility.

So, with 69 Camaros receiving this engine, and 2 known Corvettes and who knows how many were used up in the Can Am challenge series (of which they were built for initially) there undoubtedly have been some of these engines transplanted into Corvettes, but how would anybody prove this.

The Suydam white car is a clone - it has ZERO factory documentation; only two were built at St. Louis and sold at retail, and both are well-known and fully factory-documented. Many more were built/raced by privateers with over-the-counter engines.
