Hi I have the chance to buy a 1971 LT1, Looks like one right hood interior, dash identifer says 350/330 but it has a Automatic, this was a option but never heard of a LT1 with a Auto does anyone know if it could be a correct car? Thanks Phil from Milwaukee. pglass5@wi.rr.com

Phil, at least you knew to ask questions first! There is an ever so slim possibility that you have found a one-off car. There would certainly need to be MUCH more intensive inspection on it to determine that. You would likely need someone of a NCRS judge worthiness to determine it. Are rare finds out there? Yes. gmjunkie here found one a couple years ago. It was one of Zora Duntov's cars if I recall correctly. But it's rare. And if you are buying it from a dealer, it's probably a fake unless it's got original factory documentation. There could be a build sheet on top of the gas tank that would say what the car shipped with from the factory.
Someone else will certainly correct me if I'm wrong about the build sheet and it's possible location.
