Question: 1977 Corvette Luggage Rack

Has anyone tried to remove a luggage rack from a '68-'77 Vette?

I want to polish away paint oxidation on the rear decklid of my '77 and it would be so much easier with the luggage rack out of the way. I will be reinstalling the rack when I'm finished.

And will the well nuts and other hardware stay in place or fall through?

I hope it's not a real PITA to do. Any step-by-step instructions anyone?

Just take the screw out at each vertical post. The mounts will stay put and the rack will lift right off.

Sometimes the screws are rusted in, spray them with rust penetrator, give they a while and then try them. I think you can get replacement parts from vendors.
