I have a question on a 1978 silver anniversary corvette. The codes on the trim plate are... trim 122 paint 13L. The car does have oyster leather and is silver top to bottom. In the above model center it does not list oyster leather and solid silver paint as a possible combination! Can anyone help me to understand???

First, welcome to the CAC!

The paint/trim combos listed represent the suggested combos as determined by Chevrolet. Variations could be ordered which are not standard. One of the more well known instances of this is the 1968 production of Silverstone Silver Vettes ordered with the not recommended red interior. So many folks ordered it that it became a recommended combo in 1969. This means that if someone with check in hand wanted to order a red car with green interior they could, with some persuasion, do it.

Hope this explains it.

Thank you for all your help... now it makes sense.

Paint/trim combinations

Chevrolet (and all GM marques) had available the "COPO" feature that would let you order about anything from the factory that could they could do. The "not recommended" color combinations were one such item. That's also how dealers got the 427 Camaros in 1969 and Black Monte Carlos and Camaros and Novas in 1972. They wouldn't paint Corvettes black from 1969 until 1977 though. Something about getting the body smooth enough.

I wish we still could "have it our way" That was the beauty of the older Vettes. The Yellow/green, green/green, blue/red, ect., all the combos that are not longer available.
