I need some help. I want to replace the stock steering wheel on my 1979. With all the different aftermarket wheels available, their is soo much to choose from. I've looked at literally hundreds of wheels and have narrowed the search down to 1 or 2. I guess the questions are:

1. How difficult is it to replace the wheel?
2. Will I require a hub adapter? If so, where can I purchase these from?
3. What other items do I need to purchase for this job?..IE..any special tools etc...

Would appreciate everyones input.

Thanks..

Andy

Andy,
The wheel comes off rather easy, pop the horn button and might be another piece in there then 6 screws hold the wheel on, NOT a single nut like in other cars. So if you're not getting a 'Corvette' wheel, you will need some kind of adaptor.

Andy,
If for some reason you need a wheel puller, Auto Zone rents them.

I'm going to disassemble my column next weekend, unless I decide to murder deer. I've need to replace the turn signal, dimmer, & replace the broken turn lever.

Rat..let me know how u make out. Slaughtering for whitetails ended today in PA....

what was I doing up yesterday at 2:30 am??!! ;LOL

actually, I woke up today around 4:30. once i'm up I usually can't go back to sleep so if I'm up, I'm up.

BTW, about 15 minutes after you left yesterday Bernie called so he stopped by and brought me my repaired valve cover. it looks decent enough and I already got it back on the car this morning. You really have to look very carefully to see where it cracked and it would easily not be noticed at all unless you really know where to look and what you are looking for so I'm pretty pleased overall.
I'm still going to look for a another set of covers if I can find some at a reasonable price in good condition.

I recently bought a Momo wheel that I think would look great in my 79,plus the recommended adapter hub.I dont want to give up any room in my vette, because I'm 6'3",& I mentioned that and asked if the hub would make everthing protrude into my seating space.Well,it ended up in another 3-4",& I might have been able to live with it,but the hub was oversized and so ugly I didnt want to use it.Then I went to a machinist guy in town to see if the wheel could me drilled & machined to fit w/o an adapter.Well,it could've probly worked, but all the work would've added at least another $200 to my already $200 wheel! Now,I;m checking into a LeCarra wheel, like my buddy with a '78 has, that he says didnt need an adapter. I hope I can send the other stuff back!:eyerole
