Hi Guys,

I purchased a 1984 Coupe, 4+3 manual recently and of course after 30 years, she has a few issues.
She was originally imported into Australia in 1995 and converted to right hand drive at that point...she has been right hand drive for more years of her life than she was left hand drive.

Anyway, I have an issue with the digital fuel gauge, it reads full all the time and then it suddenly drops and indicates its time to refill the tank.

I am thinking on sending my cluster in for a rebuild as we have a guy in Brisbane who services the digital clusters, and yes he is a Corvette specialist.
I am not sure if this cluster rebuild would fix the issue though and am leaning towards the fuel sender unit.

What do you guys think could be the issue?

I cant even begin to imagine what it takes to convert Left drive to Right but with that said, I don't think that is your problem though one of the grounds that is involved with the dash is on the right frame rail under what was the heater/a/c box, and any time you make that big a change it has be a factor not to discount.

I tend to think it is more likely that your fuel sender is a little tired and since it is one of those things that you can put in your hands in about 15 min. I would start there I have seen other response's from people that have the manual and can tell you what the readings are but I figure if you pull the sender and move the float you can see first hand the result, it could be as simple as a float that gets hung up.

Pull the tank pick-up/sender assembly and inspect the fuel gauge sender.

Thank you

Hi Forrest,

Thanks for your help, I will pull the sender unit out and give it a clean up. I have to order a gasket from the U.S first.

The guys do a great job in RHD conversion, but I still think we should leave them alone and the factory should produce them right hand drive. Hey with Holden ceasing vehicle manufacture here in Australia, we could end up with more U.S content...I wish!

Thanks for your help.

Here are some rough values for testing, I was told some time ago by mechanic I worked with that a sending unit at Full is up around 100 ohms and empty somewhere around 2 or 3 ohms and 1/2 tank somewhere around 45 to 55 ohms

Thank You
