Hello all,

Have an 84 vet (Z51, Doug Nash 4 & 3 speed), with 34K original miles - 2nd owner, have had the car since 1985. I've been told, that when you drop the engine hood to have both sides latch, you should grab the center hood (by the windshield) and drop it from 18" - I've read this is how the factory tested to see if the hood was properly adjusted.

In the past my passenger side of the engine hood was at times difficult to release, so this yesterday, I began adjusting the release cable on both sides of the hood, and properly got the hood to quickly release on both sides of the engine compartment.

Then I went to a classic car show, and there was a 1961 original vet, with the engine hood up. I chatted with owner, and when he was preparing to leave, he "gently" closed his engine "hood", and softly pressed the (2) corners near the windshield, and the hood latches locked ever so quietly.

So, I am back to my ? = on a 1984 vet, do we have to drop the hood from 18", hear the loud BANG, or are there adjustments to be made so the hood can be quietly closed?

In advance . .. thanks

Duke

I lower my hood by hand my self and push down the conners until it latches.

I would think over time doing the drop check o the hood cant be all that great on it each there own I just dont like slaming things close.

I am with ya on that, I am not a big fan of banging the hood . . .

I tried to find a 1.5" open wrench or crescent wrench to unscrew the striker plate bolt, but I did not have one, nor did any of the neighbors - so I was unable to make the adjustments - I was able to to find a PDF file from GM which gave instructions to make all of the adjustments.

See the pdf attachment . . .

In advance, thanks.
