Morning,

So, Friday night I took my stock (with flowmaster mufflers)1989 L98 Corvette to Atco Dragway in NJ. I was expecting to run maybe mid 14s. Imagine my surprise! Traction was a non issue, I don't think it spun tires at all. I did not preload the converter at all. I waited till the last yellow light and put it to the floor! I shifted myself at about 5k RPM(as opposed to just leaving it in D). I hoped my video would see my tach, but I positioned the camera poorly. Here's my overall run numbers:
R/T: .145
60': 2.130
330': 5.865
1/8: 8.933@79.60
1000': 11.598
ET: 13.846@100.98

I have two videos of the run, one from outside the car and one from inside. I am waiting for my buddy to give me a copy of the outside the car video. I'll post it when I get it. For now, here's the inside the car video:

Not bad at all. I have been thinking of taking mine to the track here on a friday fun night. Just worried i would break mine there lol

Not to shabby at all especially for an automatic and the DA being poor at 1600ft. There is plenty of stuff out there your car is faster than.
Many people won't believe its stock, haters gona hate. ;)

Quit being a sissy smokestack, C4's are pretty robust. I've never encountered wheel hop or broken half shafts, the C5/C6's tend to do that. If you car is in sound mechanical shape, it will be fine. Continued use will increase wear and increase chance of wearing something out. If your stock you'll kill a clutch before you hurt the engine/transmission/u-joints/rear end/half shafts. I never think anything twice about it, I got the best fluids in the car and its in the best mechanical shape it can be. Good driving methods limits the risk to a very small one. One I'll take for the fun of it. Besides arguing who's Corvette is shinier is boring...

Did you lower the air pressure in the rear tires? If I punch the pedal on my 89 auto with 3.07 axle, it generates too much wheel spin. Looks like you ran will a full tank.

Tire Pressures

Hey,

My tires were all between 40 and 45 PSI. The track has a lot of gummy stuff on it, so the tires stick pretty good. I don't think I had any wheel hop or spin. And yes, my tank was nearly full. I had filled it within the past 100 miles of driving. I really wish the camera was in a better position and I could've seen my tach and speedo!

That's a great 1/4 mile time. I had a near stock '85 quite some time ago and if I remember correctly, I was running through the 1/4 in 14.40's or 14.50's

Surpising time, way to go!! Next time, rear tires @ 18 psi, unhook the air compressor, power brake to 1100 rpm, traction control off, tranny in drive not o/d, then Pin er! :D
