I have found a '90 ZR-1 with a blown engine and tranny. It has been sitting for a few years. Coupla questions;
1. how much should i offer
2. can i install an aftermarket big block with auto w/o cutting up the car
3. can i ever get the dash and lights to work w/o the computer

Thanks,

N

doubtfull on the big blk as its way wider . why not think about an ls1 with a super charger . or one of shaffroffs big inch small blks. he makes a 472 that would be killer . or you could rebuild the lt5 if its all there . depending on the condition of the paint and interior ,if really good offer 5-6k more than that . i would think youd be too deep in it . as you can find a running c4 for 7 that you could sell the motor out of to recover some of your cost for the new pkg. in the end i would only get it if you coulkd bring her back as a true zr1 with the lt5 motor . you can find a decent used motor for 6k. put headers on her 410 in the rear . and have a low 12 sec car that in 5 years will be worth more than it is now and drive around with one of these :upthumbs all day . there is nothing like putting your foot in one of these . i know , it caused e to buy 3of them. jmho. ps ck out kill stories for what i did to a pantera

supposedly, all the engine is there, no idea on the damage but it was significant in that they decided to not do the repair. Plus, they told me that the tranny was trashed.

the remainder of the car seems to be complete, it has been repainted.

i was led to believe it would be prohibitive to do repairs on that engine...

why do they say that ,i know 3 builders that do these . it just depends on what you want to do . offer him 4 k for it and i dont think you can go wrong . are you in Idaho? if so there are a couple of zr1 guys that could look at it for you. but if they are wanting 10k for it id pass. the tranny thing could be the hydrolic clutch? but used motor 6k tranny 1500 and you could sell the motorto someone thatwant to rebuild for 2500 and the tranny for 500. all i know is that i believe the prices of these cars will go only up not down . its a piece of vet history 6800 cars built in 6 years and the only twin overhead cam small blk chev ever built remember this car cost 65k in 1990.whats the new z06 cost now 70k . these cxars are very special indeed again jmho

Just drop one of the new LSX's in it. :D Good luck...

...2. can i install an aftermarket big block with auto w/o cutting up the car...

Look up Big Doggy, GM put a big block in one of their cars back when and the story was that it was not that hard to do.

is that the one that is in black primer? if it is...i think it has been underwater.

in one of his posts he says its been repainted . but how long ago who knows . where was the primer one that was underwater ?

6 or 7 months ago i spoke with a fella who had 1990 zr1 project on ebay for sale. at the time he had a bid of 5000.00 on it but didnt sell. i looked at it a little more but it appeared to have alot of the vital little parts missing. it was in central california somewhere.

chris , what were the vital parts . the reason i am asking is i have a complete extra drivetrain . thats just sitting here . the wife might kill me ,but its xmas and maybe i can get away with it :D
