Trying to remove the starter on my 1991 auto. Seems there are some pipes in the way. Is there a special way to remove the starter without having to remove the exhaust ?

I changed starters on both my 86 and 96 and neither required removing the exhaust.

Starter remove

On my '95 (LT1) it was much easier using 1/4" drive sockets with a loooong extension. The cat heat shield got bent but only just a little. It's much easier to remove the starter wiring after loosening the starter and moving it toward the front of the car a little. Of course!!! disconnect the battery before any thing else. I also removed the passenger side knock sensor cover to get it out of the way.
Hope this helps.
