1995 6 Speed Manual Coupe
Folks, I have a 95 Corvette Coupe with 6 speed manual transmission. I am planning to bypass the annoying CAGS feature (1 to 4) and since I live in Turkey I do not have any hassles like you do in USA. There are quite a few parts on the internet; but part number 22712 from Ecklers seems easy to install. It is simply a plug to protect ends of the CAGS harness. Will it do the job? Will the car lose anything (other than the skip shift) by installation of this part??? Please heeeeelp.

It's really easy, and that will do it just fine. You'll find that the connector is near the bottom of the transmission and extremely easy to reach. No hassles at all.

No problems after installation. You won't lose anything. On mine, after doing this mod, the 1st to 4th shift light still comes on. But I'm not actually forced into 4th. I can just ignore it.

Like Skant said, the light will still come on but it wont force you to go to 4th. Any other Vettes in Turkey? :beer

Hmmmmm.....................I did this & my light DOES NOT come on.

Light should still come on. Ignore it. Guy

Skant, 94C4, FX GS & Vetteguy,

Thanks very much for your replies. Although the "1 to 4" light still may come on the screen I have a hard time seeing it anyways; it is sort of hidden behind the steering wheel... I will go for this solution.

Hey 94C4, yes there are more Corvettes in Turkey, mostly in Istanbul. I live in Ankara, the capitol of TR. But you cannot see the Vettes around too much since they are not too many. The selling price of a brand new Corvette is over US$100K in Turkey due to importation taxes and duties! A 2000 Corvette with low milage is aroun US$75K... That explains why.

Thanks again folks.

Skant,

Yours is a 96 LT-4. Did you actually use "part no 22712" from Ecklers or something else?

Um... You don't even need that cags bypass part. Just unplug it. Just put some protection on the connectors like electrical gel and some electrical tape. Works just as good. The cags bypass is a waste of money.

I agree... Mine is just unplugged and there were no detrimental effects... Actually it's just partially unplugged... I pulled it out, moved the rubber seal to the end of the connector and then put the plug about 1/4" back into the connector where it doesn't make contact... It's snug, sealed to the elements, and doesn't engage the skip shift solenoid...

I will get mine installed (Ecklers part no 22712) this week or so. Had too much work and family business these days. At last I will get rid of the CAGS stupidity

CAGS Eliminator Installed with Success...

We installed the CAGS eliminator from Ecklers (part number 22712) yesterday. I also had my EGR and IAC valves cleaned by my mechanic. The car runs smooth like a butterfly...I also had SES message every so often and it did not come up at all after the repairs. That's the first time the car is running so smooth yet very powerful. Love it... Thanks for all the advice guys & girls.
