1996 shifter knob removal

I have purchased a replacement for the shifter knob on my 96 LT4 but I cannot see how to remove the old one. Any ideas?

Removing old shifter knob

After you pry the square insert oout the top of the knob, there is a metal peg you have to pull up, then you can unscrew the factory knob.

the square metal post under the shift pattern plate is actually L shaped. if you have a flat head that is bent you can hook it under the front part of the post on the side facing the dash
