Which shows dirt the least, I'll vote for that one.

Quicksilver shows the dirt least. It's already the color of a "dirty" martini. :D

Now Patrick - you know I'm capable of making a come back that would blow you into the weeds. But I've just taken my meds and I feel real "calm"!!!!!! right now. Deep breaths, deep breaths. ummmm, ummmm.

I left this out of my last thread but the plus side of E-bay is that you see the real selling price when sold.

It is not uncommon for a person to inflate his buying or selling prices for his or her ego.

When a person asks me what l paid or sold a car for l never answer them because no matter what you were paid or had to pay they always have a comment that they did better.

The only time l will tell somebody is if they are looking or selling around the same time that l struck my deal. And if l picked it up on Auction l would just add a few thousand.

I bought my car on Ebay, and the car was everything it was advertised to be, and more. The guy I purchased it from was in Oregon, and I spoke to him on the phone about the car several times. Real nice guy, who does a lot of business on Ebay. In fact, he basically conducts (he did anyway) his business on Ebay, and since he owns a legitimate business, I was also able to make a few phone calls to check him out. The guy bent over backwards for me during and AFTER the sale.

I had the car shipped in and enclosed carrier via Dependable Auto Shippers, and when the car finally arrived, the guy at the receiving center said "your car arrived this afternoon, and I was wondering when we could make arrangements to drop it off....dude, that's one really nice car, I mean REALLY nice!" Gotta admit, that really took some pressure off because I hadn't seen the car. I bought it on trust, and background checks.

The guy that works on my car is very well known in the corvette restoration business (Ron's Auto Service, Fitchburg, MA). He's told me time and again what an awesome resto was done on my car....one of the best he's seen. And his employees have told me the same. Last year he said "you stole it" when I told him what I paid, and he says it's worth almost double what I bought it for. He told me to hold off on another appraisal until this year, so we'll see what it's appraised at. Two years ago the appraisal came in several thousand above what I paid for the car. One thing I might add though is that I bought the car in early January, which is a good time to buy.

Would I buy from Ebay again? I don't know. My stomache was in knots until the day I spoke with the guy from dependable auto shippers. I'd definitely go see what I was buying, which I nearly did...several times. But there are deals on Ebay. Sorry for rambling. -John

Comeback? I thought you'd be genuinely complemented that I compared your vehicle with a fine, sparkling adult beverage such as a martini with a bit of brine. Observe:

You see no similarity in tonal values between the two, Remo?

First of all there are very honest people on E-bay as well thieves, you just happened to get lucky and for that you should consider yourself very lucky.

If only 5% of the people selling cars dishonest and it happens to you then you really don't care about the other 95%.

There are in my opinion too many dealers and dealers selling their cars from other locations besides their place of business.

In the business this is called "curbstoning" which is illegal in my state but rarely enforced.

And as far as color l like the Millenium Yellow better because it can be touched up to a much higher standard because it's not metallic. Picking up stones while driving makes me crazy.

I don't consider myself "lucky." I did my homework on the guy, and I would strongly advise anyone buying off ebay to do the same. If I couldn't find any information on the guy, I wouldn't have bought. If I had to do it again, the only thing I would do differently would be to fly out there, which I ALMOST did several times before the purchase.

As for the color of my car (Nevada Silver), I agree that the metalic cars suck as far as touch ups. I've been told that any touch up work will stick out worse than whatever you're trying to touch up. Fortunately, I don't have much to worry about there either. -John

I just purchased a torch red a4 coupe with 11K for 13,500. The car is flawless and I think I got the deal of my lifetime on it. I have been waiting for the owner to decide on what model C6 they wanted to replace the 97 with, and I was first in line. The price was based on what they were offered for a trade in by the dealer. This car should have brought $23,500 in my estimation, but i'm biased! Bottom line is that a specialty vehicle will always command whatever the buyer wants to pay, if they are exceptional in some way, be it mileage or mods, or options, the usual guidelines of value may not apply.Just my thoughts-chuck.

Um, that's C5 if it's a '97. The A4 is an Audi.
But congrats on the purchase of your new C5, and welcome. Sounds like you got a GREAT deal. -John

In this forum, A4 means 4 speed automatic transmission.

WOW! First time I've ever heard it put that way.

You will also see people use M6 for the manual 6 speed. :)

I've never heard of either one put that way - I guess you learn something new everyday. Actually, I should've looked at his handle (C5Chines) and I would've realized he knew the difference. Thanks for the education! :)

JJS,
We have a thread on common acronyms used by folks here at CAC, which you may also find useful.
