I have a 2000 Light Pewter Metallic Coupe that I purchased new. It has the optional Magnesium wheel package. Over the years the left front wheel has managed to "acquire" some curb rash and I have been interested in resolving the problem by a number of means:
1) Professional restoration -- does anybody know if this is something that a reputable body shop could tackle? My attempts at touch-ups using the little bottle from Eckler's have admittedly been lame.
2) New stock/used wheel: I called the local dealer to find out how much it would cost to purchase a 17 inch wheel. The tag was almost $1100, plus tax. Yikes! I asked him point blank if the wheels from '97 through '04 were interchangeable, and his cryptic reply was "the part numbers have to be the same for them to be the same part". He's either trying to sell me an expensive replacement or he's trying to tell me that there may be differences in the magnesium wheels such that they may not be exact replacements. What do you think?
I have canvassed eBay and seen entire sets for less than his quote for a new stock wheel, and single wheels for still less. Most folks would probably just go aftermarket, but I kinda like these wheels and was figuring I might get a better price later if I sold it stock (with unscuffed Mag wheels).
Any advice or experience in this department?
