Has anyone heard about changes to next year's Z06? I know it's a bit early, but I was just curious about changes in horsepower, suspension (magnetic ride control?), engine size, etc.

Haven't heard anything. I'm hoping that they implement the Magnetic Selective Ride Control or some version of it into the Z06.

I have yet to drive a 2003 equipped with the MSRC (actually, I have yet to drive a C5 period), but from what I've read and heard, it's one hell of an option.

I can't imagine what it would do for the performance of the Z06 which is already phenomenal.

I was visiting the dealer today getting the PVC/valley seal replaced for the oil consumption and I was eyeballing the three 03 Z06s they had on the lot. Two of the three had "ATTENTION" notices on the dash referring to the magnetic ride control. I guess there are some sleeving devices on the mag ride system that must be removed prior to the new owner accepting delivery. Anyway, I didn't know if they were offering the mag ride on the Z06s. Maybe the dealer is an idiot, who knows? Anyone have any idea if the mag ride is "really" an option on the Z?

I don't think the mag ride control is an option for the Z06. I guess that dealer wants more sales huh?

There are two things about the Z06 that I can't figure out:

1. Why would someone buy a 03' instead of an 02' if they're unchanged...

and

2. Why didn't GM up the power some more to try to increase sales... Could you imagine how much more in sales they would have if they gave the Z06 increases in power?

Edmond,
I'm with ya man. I thought those "ATTENTION" notices were a mistake also. I think a lot of the attraction to the 03's is the 50th anniversary, albeit just a badge, its still history.
More power! Yep, I'm with you man. The more power the better. I think the C6 may have a pleasant surprise for us when it gets here from what all the fellas are saying.
I went to the Z06Fest in Sept and the Corvette Plant Manager, Wil, spoke at ceremony we had and he said that "the consumer has spoken and Corvette has listened, we asked for more power and we will be happy." No specifics.

Why did they only make one year of the Speedway white for the Z06? I thought the Speedway white looked awesome with those black air inlets for the rear brakes.

Good question Edmond! I've wondered the same thing but you and I are just a little biased to white Vettes now, aren't we;). It was a great contrasting look though. I've only seen one in white and it looked incredible!

Yes Eric, it looks like we're bothed biased to white Vette's.:L

The only current colors I don't like on C5's are pewter and (everyone's going to be :mad at me for this) red. I never liked red. My favorite C5 color is definitely Millenium Yellow. I think MY looks so good, it makes a Cavalier look awesome. You guys ever see the Cavaliers with the Z06 rims and MY color? Aren't the Z06 rims on the Cavaliers chromed too? If they are, that sucks to have a Cavalier with chromed Z06 wheels as a factory option, but not have that option for the Vette'. You figure that since you're paying $50,000+ for the car, they would throw in the chromed wheels if you wanted...:(

I suspect polished will be an '04 option for the Z06 wheels.

There are interior changes in the '03 vettes to meet govt. impact standards. Check the A and B pillars between the two.

I believe that it depends upon the amount of demand for that color. There were only 352 Speedway White 2001 Z06s built out of a total of 5,773 total. That's approximately 6% of 2001 Z06 production.

I think that Milennium Yellow and the Electron Blue Metallic are two of the best colors for the Z06. I love both colors, but I actually think I may like the Electron Blue a little better. An Electron Blue Z06....actually any Electron Blue C5 just screams to be put in the sun. This color really looks awesome in bright light.

I'd love to see GM build the Z06 in Spiral Gray Metallic as well. This is another awesome color.

Someone at my gym just took delivery of a 2003 Spiral Gray Metallic coupe with the Speedline Magnesium wheels which have a gold tint to them. This car looks unbelievable in the sun.

Wow, I can't believe there are only 352 Speedway white Z06's out there! Now that would have a slight premium over other Z06's right?

I love the Electron Blue as well Rob. Something about it looks "dangerous and sexy" at the same time! LOL. I also like the Nassau Blue color. I'm kind of partial to blue!

Isn't the Millenium Yellow like a $800 option?

Yellow is a $750.00 option. :)

I always liked the White Z as well. As for the Blue, it was the #3 color last year. Black was # 1 for the first time, it beat out red by just a couple of % points. 1) black 2) red 3) blue 4) silver 5) yellow (yellow is a limited produced color)

Regarding premium for rare color - not necessarily. Given past sales history on Vettes, rare color(s)/combinations haven't always netted top dollar.

I believe that at this time, RPO 79U - Millenium Yellow Paint is $750.00. There is a charge for this (as there was for the pre-2003 Magnetic Red Metallic II paint) due to more time required for painting in the paint booth. The clear coat used also has special tinting in it which is why these particular colors have a very vivid appearance in bright light.

Hey, cant beat Cobalt Blue either ;) lol.

I love Black, EBM, NBM and then Magnetic Red (now called something else for the anniversary edts) Something 'bout dark colors appeals to me. And yeah, typically the colors they call "premium" require some extra prep to them, or some extra time somewhere so they gotta charge ya more. Oh, and the reason people would buy a 03 over an 02 Z, would be b/c of the "heritage" behind having a 50th Corvette. And I haven't seen/read/heard anything on the 04 or C6s yet. I just hope, GM dont screw 'em up like they seem to be doing everything else

Just bought Silver '03Z. I was motivated by the big 50. I informed the dealer; I was disappointed, by the fact that no major changes to '03. After chatting a bit, my salesman shared, it is a Marketing Tactic. GM will sell all the 50ths because they will be collectors and GM will sell all the '04 because it will be the C6, next gen vette.

The C6 will debut sometime in 2004 as a 2005 model.

Welcome

Welcome aboard Ron and congrats on the new ZO6.
