2006 Z51 Yellow
Got my new 2006, Z51 last night at 7pm. Sat on the side of the road with oil pouring out of for 3 1/2 hours waiting for roadside assitance, They never showed, so I gave up and got a ride hope. I now understand why GM promotes OnStar, GM cars are junk. The car is so reliable, it did not even get me home from the dealer. First GM car since 1981 and the last, I just hope I get my money back without a lawyer.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I suspect it's something pretty simple but I can't imagine how your dealer missed it in prep.

I hope it's all resolved to your satisfaction quickly and painlessly.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of the folks taking delivery on their new Vettes are very happy with them. No offense, but I think you were just unlucky. Hopefully it's out now and you'll have smooth sailing from now on! :D

Ok....I'm not even sure how to approach this one. Let me first start off by stating a couple observations and asking a couple questions.

  1. This is the very first case I've heard of Roadside Assistance taking that long to respond to a call. AAA doesn't even take that long and they don't exactly have a good reputation for handling calls in a timely manner, although the last couple of times I've had to call, they responded within 30 minutes.
  2. From your post, I assume you picked up your brand new 2006 Corvette from the dealer and this happened on the way from the dealer. Assuming you had a cell phone to call Roadside Assistance....did you call the dealer? If so, what did they say?
  3. What dealer did you purchase from??
  4. Oil doesn't just pour out of an engine, and the details of the situation in your post are lacking and basically non-existant. So what exactly happened?
  5. Where was the oil coming from?
  6. Did you notice any symptoms leading up to the situation? Oil pressure gauge dropping?

Tim,

At 7:30 this morning, instead of posting your response to Erik Klein, you sent it to the forums mail system, which I receive. Your response is posted below:

There will not be a second chance, they either give me a new car, or I am getting a lawyer.

So if GM cars are such junk as you state above, why would you want another one?

As an FYI, my suspicion with this thread is starting to grow. Please help me understand the situation by answering my questions above.

Give Gm a chance to make it right. If there is any damge I am sure GM will fix it at no extra cost to you.

Normally I don't bother with threads like this. Especially where the poster has only 2 posts!!

I'm with you Rob, very suspicious, indeed.

And if I'm wrong,(hopefully I am.) let me be the first to extend my apologies.

This kind of stuff makes me laugh. As my father used to say there is no such thing as a perfect car, a perfect woman or a perfect job. Somebody missed something... so what? Let them fix it.

I'm not sure if this is the time to say this and I really don't want to offend anyone, but I see this a whole lot in the Vette scene. Everybody seems to forget that they have purchased a race car. You may want a Vette to be the coolest guy on the block, or to make yourself feel young, or you honestly think you are Johnny Hotrodder, or you have a passion for cars. I don't know but these quirks are not the car's or GM's fault. They are taking a race car and trying to make it freindly and that's tough to do. It heats my nuggets to see people complain about Z51 break squeal, of course they squeal they are race breaks. I'm sick of hearing about harsh ride, ever ride in a Porsche? They don't shift well, ever shift an F40? I see people with these horrible attitudes and I feel really bad for the Corvette. Its not an SUV, its not a luxury car... its a 400 hp monster.

This does not excuse GM from shoddy workmanship, nor does it excuse a dealer for poor service. I make 200 times less than money than you and I have the same car with the same quirks. Do I think that GM could have done a better job? Maybe, but the car would be closer to $75k. I really hope you get back on the road and I hope you get squared away. I'm sorry for venting but I see this all the time. People want to own an american race car but they really want to drive a Honda.

Assuming what you say is true, go ahead and get a lawyer.

GM will be neither impressed nor intimidated. The law is on their side. All you will succeed in getting from a lawyer is a larger ... lower vent pipe... :W

I smell something funny. Rob & Kopbet.....you guys are right on. Anything is possible and sometimes the best product can have a bad day. So where is this guy????
I feel a lock coming soon.

I must say, most major issues are caught at the plant!

Something could have went wrong or been goofed with at the dealer I guess.

BTW - Who was/is the dealer? ;shrug

I didn't even realize that the 2006 were on the showroom floor yet.

The Z06 is officially an '06 model and they are finally shipping in quantity.

The new 6 speed auto w/paddle shifter seems like a nice addition to the car! :)

He waited 3 1/2 hours and din't call and ask why no one had shown up? Yeah and I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'll sell you.

How much do you want for the bridge? :D

Seriously, I would've called the dealer. I'm sure that if this story were true 99.9% of the dealers would've immediately sent someone out to pick you and the vehicle up.

People really care

I posted the problem with my 2006 Z51 this morning and I can not believe the response. I was contacted by two engineers in Detroit and one from the plant. The customer service people are wothless and the Roadside Assitance doesn't work, but the members of the Corvette team really care about the customer and the product, I was very impressed with their additude. I will admit that I was rather emmotional this morning, but you would be also, if you sat on the side of the road for 3.5 hours, with a brand new broken car.

Because of all this interest, I decided to keep the car and put 150 miles on this afternoon, It am glad to "eat crow" and keep this car, it is everything I expected it to be.

GM can verify this.

GM can verify this, they keep very good records on this kind of stuff.

The dealer was closing when I left and they told me to call the Roadside Assistance number.
