2006 Z51 Junk

Ok here is my .02 worth:W.

2nd. Can there be problems. Yes. Any complicated piece of equipment will have problems. If not now, it will if you own it long enough. But I don't think i would have come here to rant about the problem before giving the dealership a chance to correct it. Of course I do agree that the dealer should have shown some concern and at the very least called a tow truck to come get the car.

OK my flame suit is on:bash .

The Fun Continues
I wrote two weeks ago how my 2006, Z51 didn't get me home from the dealer before an oil line came off and dumped all the oil on the ground. Many of you said I was nuts and such things could not happen.

Well I am unhappy to report that yesterday the "reduced power" warning came on and today the "anti-lock brake" warning came on.

5:30pm Update! My new Corvette just got towed back to the dealer because it would not start in Target's Parking lot. It looks like the car will get more miles on flatbed tow truck than on the road.

I should have kept the Porsche............

As someone in the market for a sports car early next spring it seems like timd had more than one issue with his new car. I also think the lack of anyone at the dealer giving a rats a** about it did not help. Lets face it QA was lacking on this one. Still leaning towards a Corvette versus a couple of other options but the courtesy delivery idea I am rethinking.

Car is not sold, since you live in Flint, you can just pick it up at the dealer and I will drive up with the title and pick up the check.

As far as i am concerned the C6 isnt my cup of tea it has too small of storage space (convertible) and way to much gadgets. But if you were willing to buy a C6 and let a little thing like a cooler line leak make you leave it at the dealer than your not a real Corvette lover. I am and wouldnt ever let a little thing like a cooler line change my mind.

I think it is time to find a new dealer.

I agree with you Rob,if I had the extra $ I'd buy thear from him.I own 2000 SL600, it has it's quirks,but it,s a fun ride,just like hog's and choppers,I'm always
working on them.Any car can have problems,.

1- It's all true; I talked with Tim almost daily in anticipation of his new toy. Which explains the level of disappointment with the oil dump and several no-starts. Less than 50 miles and the engine compartment, the undercarrarge and the rear all bathed in oil. Maybe you don't have the same image of some minimum wage guy at the dealer "cleaning" it up but I do.
2- He's connected, which is why he got it early...altho it was in a quality hold for several days prior to delivery. He's part of the industry, both product and motorsports. he has all the phone numbers. Which only served to reinforce the GM image/perspective of no one ever taking any level of responsibility and stepping up to solve a customer's problems. "you need to call..." pass the buck-ism.
3-I belong to several forums--this one's amazing; first Tim's posts get met with hostility and disbelief, just short of calling the guy a liar--he's mad, can you blame him. Then the whole series of Vette apologists chime in--"just the way it is"-- "nothing's perfect"--yada, yada. We're not talking about a shirt that's missing a button, we're talking 50 large. If you order a steak and it's not right do you just sit and eat it?
4-You'd love to have one of Tim's cars--never abused, always taken care of, etc. This one would never have seen snow
5-If you think this is all bunk and the dealer has got it all together then do a deal and buy it.
6-Still holding to my GM Anonymous vows--haven't owned one since my 1986.

You analyzed it from his side now look at it from this side. We, on this forum, love the corvette, hence the whole website dedicated to it. Then out of the blue, someone who none of us know, comes on and starts calling the car junk. Some people are gonna take offense.

I can certainly understand Tim's frustration with the car but its all how its approached. The first posts are pretty negative. Were they justified, maybe, but I think corvette enthusiasts are the wrong people to try and call out the vette to. That doesn't mean we don't see the imperfections but while we may sympthatise(which, if that was the attitude expressed I'm sure he would have recieved a lot more support) we won't join in the bashing.

Ryan--your thoughts are well put; perhaps Tim could have done a better job of outlining his experience and what exactly happened.

In the grand scheme of things, sometimes expectations and reality meet, sometimes not. If you don't demand that they come close, life never becomes any better. The product, in his view, did not live up to the expectations that he had which I don't believe to be abnormal for most people. Those expectations have been fostered by the marque and its manufacturer.

I think in today's automotive world you should rightly have an EXPECTATION that you can turn the key and enjoy a new vehicle for 20-30-50,000 carefree miles; particularly a high end vehicle--in fact, the higher the $$, the greater the expectation should be. Unless you have some irrational sense of economics where your time amd/or money has no meaning.

Are we expecting perfection? of course; Is it likely to happen, of course not. Cars are as imperfect as the people who build them. But for a major glitch to happen out of the box...they should have been all over it. It's never about the money or the mistake; it's about the hassle. The calls, the time, the promises, etc, etc. One unhappy customer begets more lost sales than a happy customer.

I get the sense that there is a group here who think this is no big deal; part of the ownership experience. Maybe to them it would be, or maybe they'd never want to tell anyone. I know I'd be just as livid as Tim.

Corvettes are sort of like the Cubs...if today's 50,000 buyers get disappointed; who cares, another 50,000 will be in line tomorrow. The problem is the Cubs still never get any better.

Yes grasshopper, GM did have 50% market share at one time.

You win!

To be fair and dare I say objective (that can be a bit lacking on these forums on occasions) if I had just bought it and didn't get to the bottom of the road far less home I would also be seriously p@@@ed off as well, even if it was gold plated. These are reasonably high dollars cars and imho Timd has every right to expect better. I have had dozens of new cars and trucks through work over the last 20 odd years, both leased and rented, and never had one blow the oil all over the road in the first few miles. The fact that it is a Vette is no excuse for putting up with poor QA.
