On our 81, we want to get some more power from it without doing any major fabrication. Upgrading the techonology making it a little more streetable.

We're taking it in for paint ina few weeks so we figured if we're gonna do anything to this motor, now would be the time to do it.

We heard about sdparts.com from powerblock TV on spike.

From there we called to get some ideas etc from thier staff that seemed pretty helpful.

We wanted to go with a Fuel Injected motor, didn't want to mess with a carb, this car will be pretty much daily driven.

They suggested a 350 RAM JET ($5000) and a 700R4 Transmission ($1900) with Torque Convertor.

We're pretty much learning here as we go. Any suggestions for our criteria and whether or not this is a good way to go?

ANY INPUT would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if the Ram Jet will fit under your hood, but there is a lot that can be done to really beef up your L81 for under $5000 (I'm getting in the mid to high 300 HP range for around half of that). The 700r4 is a good choice. Might also look at the 2004r. Check them out at www.bowtieoverdrives.com God bless, Sensei

I go with Sensei on the 200R4. If you don't want to do any major fabrication a 700R4 isn't an option, the 200R4 will fit perfectly without any fabrication and it should be able to handle the power. The big problem with any engine is if it's going to fit under the hood.
An injection engine will need an ECM and a compleet wiring harness, if you want to put it behind the seat as original you need to take out the center console and get behind the dash to get the wiring harness in.
To get the car to be more streetable, the engine could be the beginning, be sure to check (and maybe replace) the bushings for all the suspension parts. After 25 years rubber really needs an update :)
