Can anyone tell me if a GM 350 RAM JET will fit under a stock 1978 hood?

I’m looking for a fuel injected crate engine to put into my car that will cause as small as impact as possible. I think that a LS1 would be a little too much for me right now although I really like what Turn Key Engine Supply offers as a stand alone package. Trying to figure out the computer and sensors on a donor engine is also more that I’d like to try. I was looking at the 350 RAM Jet because it’s the same block I currently have and I could use all my existing accessories (Gen, PS, AC, Fan, etc…). I’m looking for something in the neighborhood of 350-400 hp, with a stand alone computer and preferably not fly-by-wire. Anyone have any ideas?

No, it won't.

Huh. I have TPI and it fits just fine. I didn't realize the Ram Jet sat higher.

Back to Larry's question- what fits... Larry, you could use a TPIS miniram or a modded LT1 intake on a crate motor. You'd need a harness, the sensors, computer, chip, etc but it can be done.

In my honest opinion... I'd purchase a long L88 hoot, a Ram Jet and be done with it.

Hi there,
Personally, I have installed the RamJET into a 1981 with the stock TH350 transmission.
Its a wonderful swap.
Issues are as follows.
First, the hood will not clear it, unless you shim it UP.
And even then, we had to slightly chamfer the TOP of the manifold, where the throttle body bolts to it.
A higher rise is in order for the hood.
The air cleaner will JUST clear the radiator fan, about 1/4 inch.
The TH350 will handle the power, as long as your not going drag racing.
It would be suggested to rebuild it, as thats how I did this swap.
The engine is smooth and tractable to 5500 and we get about 20 highway with the stock gears at 60 mph.
Allthebest, c4c5

I've got this setup on my 383 and it runs like a scalded a** ape! $2000.00 from First Fuel Injection in Elsie, Michigan.
