I am finished putting the long block together for the 85 Vette project.

383 built from a four bolt 350 and 400 crank (type I)
Center bolt heads, 2.02/160 valves, ported polished, and pinned
Crane 2050 flat tappet hydraulic roller compucam
Chevy 1.6 full roller self aligning rockers.

Here it is with the LT1 intake being test fit.

I will drop the intake at my favorite aluminum welding shop Sat morning to hook up the fuel rails and do some other goodies to it. This is more or less, a poor man's Miniram.

For now I will run the stock throttle body, as my budget does not dictate anything else exotic.

As you can see, this motor will be all black, with ZERO flash. I will paint the intake black less for polishing the upper rails.

Ooops!

This is why I am rebuilding anyway.

Notice the nice melted spot in the forged speed pro piston.

Chris, any ideal of expected hp or torque. I've been considering putting together a similar combination but never considered LT1 intake. I'm sure you'll make it work well. Curious to see future post on how this engine project transpires as it sounds like a good one. Will be looking foward to your future results. Thanks for all the good info you post all the time.

Tim,

I have a long history with this car. I owned it for around 8 years or so and then sold it back in 97 or so. I just bought it back with the motor blown.

I originally built the 383 in this car in around 93 or 94. At that time I had a smaller cam, smaller valves in the heads, stock torque converter, and smaller headers. It ran 13 flat in the 1/4 mile at around 105. It dipped into the 7's in the 1/8th, but fell off bad due to the poor uppen end flow characteristics of the stock tuned port manifold.

So....my goal is not so much hp centered. My goal is to rip the 1/4 off under 13 around 110 mph.

I believe the combo of bigger heads, higher stall, bigger cam, better exhaust, and the LT1 intake (plus a set of accel injectors) will help get me there...PLUS...be mild enough (thanks to simply more cubes) to drive everyday if I want.

Hp wise...? That is a sold 350 or so to pull that off.

Beautiful rebuild. I did the same to my '69. Sure do miss it.
Convert and all.
But C4's rule. Right? Right.

The prior owner installed it.

I guess it is between a 2400, to a 2800. In other words, it is one or the other, or inbetween. I am pretty sure it is a B&M.

It feels very nice and loose. The R's come up fast, and it snaps tight when you nail it.

I will get the details and let you know.
