Has anybody put the 3M Paint Protective Film on your Corvette? I watched Two Guys Garage on Speed and was intrigued by this new product which is a plastic film adhesive that protects the nose of cars from bug and chip damage.

It was suggested on the TV program that this protective film was better than a bra. I am curious if anyone has installed the film on the nose of your corvette and whether it was difficult or not ot adhere.

Check out Cleartastic at http://www.cleartastic.com They are a Supporting Vendor here and their products have received excellent feedback. Check the Aftermarket Products Forum below where their products have been reviewed by members.

Rob,

Thanks for reminding me about Cleartastic. I am familiar with them but it seems the difference in their product and the 3M product is that 3M is for the nose of the car where Cleartastic is for the wheel side panels.

Rob,

I noticed at the bottom of Cleartastic's website when I looked more closely that they are developing an identical product but do not yet have it on the market. I am very interested because my 1996 Collector Edition Silver is a challenging color to keep clean and protected.

I agree! :( I have been looking into speed lingerie for awhile, i just can't justify the 400 bucks... the clear stuff sounds pretty good though

I have also found another supplier for such a product: xpel.com. This supplier provides a host of such coverings for a variety of cars. They also have excellent graphics on their website. However, I do not know from experience how user friendly or easy they would be to install.

Here is the link to a group that sponsors my racing club: http://www.clearsolutions.bz/index.htm. I have seen their product on a couple of 911s and briefly thought about putting it on my '96 CE after my hood was replaced and repainted following an accident. These folks indicated that sometimes upon removal of the clear plastic covering, repainted cars can have their paint pulled off with it. Therefore, I decided against it. However, once my C6 arrives, I will have this product applied. It is hardly noticeable and looks as if it would provide excellent protection. The cost the quoted me for the hood, front bumper and behind the wheels was about $700 (if I remember correctly). I think that it is worth it. They are in the San Francisco Bay Area and I am not sure if there are outlets near you but it may be worth calling them. Good luck!

I also watched this episode over the weekend !
Sure got me thinking since I am trying to polish out the car for spring.

I wanted to put something like this along the lower rocker panels since they are covered in tar, bugs, gunk of all sorts (I just got the car in Sept so it aint mine;) )

The Cleartastic folks are quite nice, but they couldn't help me with a similar need.

Bras, like car covers, collect dust (miniature rocks) which grinds away at the paint as it vibrates. I would not use one for anything but a long road trip. We discussed this recently, here. See: car covers.

The clear films are very interesting, but may be hard to apply on curvy surfaces. I understand that they are applied similar to the widow tint, which takes a pro to apply to, say the rear hatch glass. See, the film is flat and may not stretch to cover the curved surfaces.

I wonder if the 'other' shops are using the 3M product.

I also understand that the films are removeable. I much prefer that idea to any cloth overlay.
