3rd gear crunch

[04 Commemorative]

Hi all, my Corvette is a 04 Commemorative conv. Before that I had a 02 conv. both 6 speeds and both sort of crunch when going into 3rd gear. Wondering if anyoone else has this. Thanks in advance.

HI there,
This will depend on your mileage.
Normally, all may do this, based on the speed of the shift and how much it is broken in.
You might try to change the fluid, to assist you, but that is really about it to change this.

have a little under5k on the 04 but like I said my 02 did it also, had dealer check it out and of course nothing is wrong.

Have a good friend with an 02 vert and he also made the same comment to me about a crunch when going into 3rd sometimes. I have not seen this issue on my 03 but have felt a touch of roughness going to third on occasion. I have changed my fluid over to Redline D4. Could be you are forcing the shift to 3rd and not giving the synchros time to slow the gear down enough prior to engagement. Try shifting at a slightly higher or lower RPM to see if this improves the shift quality. You may also want to change the fluid to synthetic to see if you get any improvement. Good Luck.

pretty sure I am shifting at right rpms,been driving stick for many years but will ask dealer to switch to syn fluid next time I am it there. Due to go in because of fuel filler neck,sometimes it is almost impossible to fill this car without pump clicking off many times. But I still love it! Thanks for reply.
