4+3 interchangeable?

Are all year overdrives the same, as far as exchange? Can I use a later year in a 1985, and can I just disconnect the TV cable? I have what I believe to be a NOS overdrive unit the MK2 with .68 overdrive in the box is some paperwork indicating that on 1984 and 85 units leave off the TV cable. A transmission guy said that this was not necessary to hook up because it is not a kick-down and can be left wire tied to the underside of the car. Yes you may...I have an 84 with an 86 4+3 unit...Just tie the cable for the TV up out of the way. You are better off with the newer unit.
