4 speed shifter

Just bought a 1976 Vette with a 4 speed. The shifter seems to have alot of slop in it. Already got it hung up in reverse once. This is going to be the wifes car. I think I'm going to replace the whole shifter to avoid problems. Does anyone know if this can be done without dropping the trany?

Get a Hurst shifter.Very easy install and you dont have to drop the tranny..
