I have a 93 ZF-6 that I've owned for about 3 months. This is the first six speed I've owned so I don't have much to compare it to short of other manuals I've driven. I've had some resistance shifting the car into gear (no grinding). I've replaced the master and slave and taken it to two shops. The shops say I need a new clutch. One in particular said my pedal force was very high. Using a crude bathroom scale I tried to measure the force needed to push down the pedal. It's about 45-50 lbs. Does this seem high? The car has 45K miles and I think it is teh original clutch.

I certainly appreciate any advice.

You should find another Vette to drive & compare. Some local Vette Club or a car dealer with one one the lot.

I don't think you can really tell much from the bathroom scale method (except need or a diet or not :) )

I once drove a guy I "met" on the forum all around so he could evaluate my Corsa exhaust b4 he put one on his.

Most Vette guys are happy to oblige.

Need for a clutch is usually evidenced by slippage (motor revs higher & car does not accelerate).

You may have a throw out bearing or shift fork problem.

If you go after that then, I suppose, you may as well put in a new clutch surface.

Maybe others with more expertise will chime in?
