manual vs. auto

I love the feel of the manual, but my diabetes forces me to drive an auto. Either way it's still a vette!

All my other Vettes were all manual transmissions, but when I drove my first C5 it was an auto with 3:15 gears and I was suprised how responsive it was so I stuck with the auto. Once in awhile I do miss the manual untill I get stuck in traffic, then its forgotton and then I am glad mine is a auto...:beer

In a sports car I always loved the manuals by far, but with my first vette auto I had to change my mind, and with the 94 I have been playing around re-programing the shifting points and its getting better every time (more to my taste).

I miss the manual some times but not too much because now I like the auto a little more. (it is my every day driving)

I believe its a matter of each one taste, but I would not take in consideration the re-sale value thing. Maybe my next one its going to be a 6 speed!!!

See if GM only made the corvette with the dual clutch sequential shift technology at a premium of about 1,000 dollars we could have the best of both worlds..

A stick shift when we wanted one and an automatic mode when we're in the situation where it would be the best choice.

It will be slow to come but when GM finally wakes up. That will be the day they not only sell even more corvettes but also get the absolute best performance and amazing consistancy as well.

Just my two cents..

JBs you are SOOO right sobebody must knock on GM's skull to make them realize they are years behind on options that would make them more money(sell more cars)

hey everyone,
heres a good reason for an auto,my friend and i racing friday night he has a 99 30th ann. trans-am with some mods, and he is a good driver,so dont go there, anyway,we leave on the second yellow,im ahead like always and hes rolling thru the gears trying to catch me(never does)hes shifting from 3rd to 4th but got second instead, bent most of the push-rods and possibly the valves too.we cant get any pushrods til monday,we will reassembe with the new pushrods and hope the valves are o.k.,with the auto i never hit the rev-limiter,this is not the first time i have seen this happen.later,Todd.

....if you want to ride then auto....if you want to drive 6sp.

I have a 2002 automatic. I chose the auto because I wanted to enjoy the car on long drives and also in local trafic.I have bad knees so the shift allthought it can be done is just a nucence for me,I also wanted my wife to use the car.Even if my knees wernt bad I still would have purchased an automatic.

I can tell you when I was buying the car I did take alot of heat because I was buying a automatic.I had a freind with a 97 stick car who was making fun of me once he took mine for a ride he traded his in on a 2003 auto,He also said the car felt faster then his .I also got mine with the performance rear axel

Shifty Subject

Jim,

Actually the CAC members just had this conversation and a poll about a month ago. The six speed won hands down as it will in this poll. Personally I like the six speed. Most people from my generation (early baby boomers) equate sports car with manual transmissions. I also beleive that the resale value is a little higher on the six speeds.

Made Up My Mind

Thanks to all of you plus lots of research and soul searching or whatever I have decided the 6 speed is the only way to go.

If I lived in a large metropolitan area like LA, NYC, Chicago, or others the automatic would make sense but since I now live in Las Vegas area and dont have a "daily drive" to work every day the 6 speed is a better choice.

I enjoy the 91 coupe with 6 speed I have now and find that with my "daily driver" a PT Cruiser Turbo with auto stick I am always using the auto stick feature to shift it.

So told the dealer today to add the 6 speed to my order and not to let me change my mind between now and when he actually places the order.
:) :) :) :) :m

MANUAL SUCKKKSSSS!!!

Me, I like automatic. shifting gears manualy is an un needed waste of time and effort. Let the machine do it's job. Just like power windows. why crank a window down manualy when you can just push a button. Why wash dishes by hand when you can use the dish washer. Auto matic transmission is just another conveniance that I like.
Another hassle with manual trans missions is that you have more parts to break down wear out and replace such as a clutch.
Never have to worry about a clutch repair with an automatic.

Good choice !

"Driving" a car is much better than "ridding" in a car !!

Especially when that car is Corvette.

I agree buckbundy323, unfortunately... my vote still goes to Manual tranny. You make soooooooo much sense, but again, driving a Corvette is not about sense. It's about the senses. :Steer

Just my .02

Sly

hey there,
thats funny because my 93 saturn is a 5 speed and driving it is not fun,its not the tranny that makes the car fun its the car,now that being said, how can using your arm and leg a couple hundred times be fun while driving.i wish my saturn was a auto also.my opinion is driving a 6-speed is a 'control issue',:D better call the head doctor, later,Todd.

Lets see....a 93 manual Saturn and a 03 manual Corvette....ya I guess that is about the same. ;stupid :bash

{driving A car is much better than riding in A car}by Mr c5.
thanks mr c5,thats what im saying, its not the 6-speed that makes the car fun, just like the 5-speed doesnt make my saturn fun.you said driving A car.i can think of lots of things to do with that sign.later,Todd.

Shifting Opinions

Folks,

There's no sense in insulting each other. The people who perfer automatics, for the most part, have very sensible reasons why it works for them. The manual tribesmen don't need to get into a huff defending the purity of shifting - the poll numbers support your position. Let's hope we don't get into a dicussion about what paint color is better. That might lead to one or two gun fights.

Vettes Rule - all Vettes

I Should Have Known Better

Sly,

Are they battling it out over there or have they remained peaceful? I'm almost afraid to look.

P.S. That car of yours is still the best. Everytime I see it all I can think of is "bad to the bone".
