Just wondering about door hinges on a 63 vette coupe- Is there a left and right?- Have had doors off and trying to fit them- When both doors are open, driver side rear of door sets 3" lower than pass side- Hinges "look" ok, Pillar "looks" ok- any advice?

Thank You

Kevin, Welcome to CAC. I think you'll find some very knowledgeable people here and hopefully someone will be by shortly to help you with your problem. I can only guess that thte hinges are "handed" but I haven't seen a C2 door hinge since I had my 64 almost 40 years ago. :w

I contacted a friend of mine who has his 67 Coupe apart (tore it apart 30 years ago to restore it) and asked him about your problem here is his response

Tom, they should all be the same. It's possible that the upper and lower would be different due to the "door hold open" but I'd have to pull mine, which I can if you want, takes 2 minutes. I should pull them anyway to clean & lube.

"Hang right" doesn't help much, I could use a better description.

There's a boatload of adjustment between the hinges and the door. The hinge holes are slotted fore & aft so, you can move the door that way and change the angle of the entire door. PLUS the nutplates in the door are loose (confined in the door but can move at least 1/8th or so in all directions.

Now, if a gap problem and the body hasn't been off the frame, a body mount cusion may have failed. If the body has been off, the number of shims at each mount affect the gap (yea this part's real fun).

AND the striker nutplate in the back of the door jam is also moveable.

See, easy peasy, Huh?

I do have a description on door gap adjustment with the body mount shims if you need it.

Basically, it's a bunch of trial and error hours.
And the bolt locations on the hinges should have been marked when the doors were removed (20/20 hindsight).

Let me know if you need anything else.

Hope this helps. If you have specific questions I can contact him with those.

The slotted holes at the hinge-to-door attachments deal with fore-aft and up-down adjustment, and the shim packs between the hinge and the door hinge reinforcement deal with in-out adjustment. All four hinges are identical (one part number).

Suggestion!!

So sorry Kevin, till now I haven't seen such cases for C2 door hinge but I believe my friend joe would definitely have an answer for this, firstly I'll contact him and let you know as soon as possible!!
Sorry for that!!
